Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Thank you very much for your comparison of the U16 with the SU-6. I am very curious to know how the SU-6 will compare after some run-in time has passed. Please keep us updated. (I only use the U16 with simple SPDIF, and I've not ever touched it since Day 1). All i know is that it is...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
I can only tell you that the U-16 blows away the M2Tech HiFace, the Matrix2, the Wyrd4Sound, the BelCanto and even the much respected Singxer F-1, - in my system. That being said, the I2s interface simply doesn't work with hi-rez material for many folks here. So, - in that sense, - the SPDIF...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Hi, respectfully.... it's contingent on the DAC. There are many great DACs (perhaps some of the greatest) out there that never had, nor ever will, have I2s as a working interface. If you couple that with at least some DAC manufacturers having either a poor USB interface implementation, or an USB...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Hiya, - I think that you would find that there is no universal preference. I think that the primary goal or purpose the U-16 is to convert the USB IF/Signal to something else. In my case, - SOME kind of USB I/F is required because I have an APL Universal player (and a Sonore ultraRendu that...- Albrecht

SPDIF--->USB
Hello Sir. Gordon Rankin of Wavelength Audio has modified an Airport Express (at least in the past) to run the USB audio CODEC through the (what is normally) a USB printer port on the Apple Airport Express. I do not think that Gordon ever sold this to folks as an item that he normally sells...- Albrecht

Allo DigiOne Signature vs. SoTM sMS-200 and 200 Ultra
This is a difficult question as it is best answered under the consideration of your other components in your system. But, - in my opinion, - having had a Macbooks, iBooks, MacMini's, and Dell PCs in my system, - all of these digital file players sound better, and are cheaper. The Razberri/Allo...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Hiya! Thanks for your reply and thoughts..... I hear you. The funny thing is, - I was happy with the F-1 until I plugged in the U-16. (I have had zero problems with the U16: but I certainly can appreciate the fact that others here have, - and I understand their frustrations. I must say that I...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
""@peteg the SU-6 is superb, doesnt need any isolation with the power stage design. AGD M-11S sounds better without the iFi Nano Galvanic in the USB part of the chain. How the Cyrstek femtoclocks line up against Accusilicon i don't know, but this DAC is an earlier build that doesnt have HDMI I2S...- Albrecht

The new Singxer SU-6
I have the Gustard U-16 and am curious if anyone has compared it to the new and latest CMOS SU-6. At 3 times the price of the very good F-1, - I imagine it would be better. In my opinion, the Gustard U-16 is significantly better than the F-1...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
Hi, I agree..... (I guess I was just simply speculating on the speculations). :smile_phones: I am not sure what ver of the firmware I have, - I was one of the first to order & receive as soon as it became available. And, AFAIK, the only way to tell what version you have is start the process of...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
I agree. I just mentioned because not having an external DC output LPS is one thing that people site as a "problem" and reason for not buying it. But as has been mentioned, the processing through the FPGA chips and Sabre processor mitigate this. Also, - I know that the SU-1 is a totally...- Albrecht

Gustard U16 - the first USB Interface featuring ESS USB chip
I really have to agree with all of that. I loved the F-1 and thought that it blew-away the SU-1 and the Matrix2 and several other USB to SPDIF Converters that I have tried. This weekend I will do a shootout. Unlike the SU-1, modifying the u16 with a DC LPS would be a PITA and I wouldn't even...- Albrecht

Hi, Happy New Year Yes, - I had and sold the Matrix2. I gave the Matrix more than 2 months of run-in and found it to be significantly worse than the F-1. The Gustard u16 blows the Matrix away. I am going to compare the u16 to the F-1 this weekend. I am loving the u16.- Albrecht

Awesome.... You've done so much for me, (all of us), - that i wish that i could've sent you mine to try. As far as the LPS-1 power cable, - I found out about the Teddy Pardo cable too late, as well as this $23 one on Ebay. ...- Albrecht

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
Hey RB. Thanks... yeah, - Just using a ($130) TeraDak LPS with the microRendu produced pretty great sound for me. Adding in the LPS-1 brought more detail & more bass, - but at the cost of midrange cohesiveness. Adding in the Sonore/Cardas USB cable to the F-1 and then again the Sonore/Cardas...- Albrecht

Hi RB My LPS-1 stung me hard..... But it definitely blew away my Teradak 9v 2a that i was using with the microRendu. Now I have a bit of overkill using the TeraDak as a feeder supply.- Albrecht

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
Totally agree.... I think that it took the high end audio guys a long time to jump on board because they didn't know about computers, and that modifying multi-function computers and optimizing them was such a daunting task so far outside their area of expertise. The proliferation of those...- Albrecht

USB Strikes Back! Watch out AOIP - USB/Ethernet Chain beats All (at least for me)
Yes, - when there is so much "wrong" with the USB bus, - it takes a lot to "fix" all the issues. My choice of words isn't the best here, as what is being "discovered" is that the USB bus has both it's benefits & it's drawbacks as a carrier for audio: especially high-end audio. And, if one is...- Albrecht

Oh right..... I totally forgot about that. I am going read up more on your DAC project: Thanks for reposting the link. Experimenting with the 2 iFi's and the RUR has inspired me to play a little more. I still want to buy a Cardas link AC cable feeding the microRendu from the Uptone LPS-1...- Albrecht

Hi, Excellent and Thank you again RB. So appreciate how you go out of your way to point out what you have done, with your system, & what works best for you, & why it's not necessarily what's right for others. We all have unique paths, and funds are not the only limiting factor. Where I'm...- Albrecht

so cool..... Just curious if your wife is like my GF: completely unwilling to get anywhere near the audio rack unless it's to sit with you and listen? I regularly get asked, "how do I turn on the TV?" Awesome that you're using the TeraDak with the LEX. That surprised me, (I remember...- Albrecht
