Hello I'm looking for THX00 Purplehearts but I'd be willing to entertain Mahogony or ebony's or even e-mu teaks. Really anything with a warm gooey bio driver. Just getting back into the hobby and 7 years ago when I gave it up these were my favorites. I'm really constrained mostly by price. I...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

So when we get right down to it he broke the rules once on reddit so we should throw out all his work?   Ok, fair enough man.  I'll leave it at that.

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

One headphone review out of 100+ isn't worth hanging on.  There's no point even engaging in that with you on that.  I don't agree with Tyll that the X2's are as good as HD 600's.  Oh well.   I don't know anything about the affiliate links but what is the conspiracy?  Affiliate links on amazon...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

That is a really simplified dismissal of a dude that's probably touched more gear then anyone here.  I don't agree with all of Zeo's reviews but I have no doubt at all that he reports what he hears.  Which is a whole lot better then a lot of the powers that be even on places like Head-Fi.    ...

    DC-Area Head-Fi Meet - Saturday, February 27, 2016 -- Impressions Thread

That'd be awesome.  I'd love to attend something like that.  Let me know!

    DC-Area Head-Fi Meet - Saturday, February 27, 2016 -- Impressions Thread

Oh god I'm in Reston I had no idea this was going down.     Going to have to pay attention next time looks like this was a lot of fun.

HD 700 can alternate between thick/warm and bright/thin.  You can see it in the frequency graph.  The big issue isn't so much elevated treble but the fact that it has two large peaks and equally as large valleys.  Depending on what you are listening to the headphone can sound very different.

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Clearly.  It's a discussion forum.   The HD 700's were a failure for Senn.  It's why the price has plummeted.  I understand the temptation coming from a gamer perspective when you read about them they sound like they could be your end game set.  But I've been there and done that.   I'll...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

Sure.  Of course.   I'm not really into EQing headphones myself.  I just tend to think that there are better cheaper options.  X2's, K7xx's, DT 880s, MA900's  etc etc.

I'm of the opinion the 700's are really close to being a 10/10 headphone it's just the problem they have is incredibly irritating.   I was looking for the same thing you were and ended up on Fidelio X2s.  I'd highly recommend them.  They are more resolving then 598s.  Some very slight grain to...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

I've owned HD 700's and I'd recommend against them.  Like heavily.  It's a weird headphone because in a sense you can hear why they priced it originally at 1000 dollars.  Incredibly resolving and detailed.  FAST bass.  Fast decay.  Incredible.  For SBX or DH great.  Not only that but they're...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

I'm off the opinion that the difference in 'soundstage' is greatly exaggerated.  And by that I mean nearly every open headphone that's competently built has a good soundstage.  (I'm talking about dynamics here mostly) The differences between good and great is so small as to be insignificant.  ...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

It's still top tier.   But there's a lot of new headphones like the Fidelio X2's and K7XX's that are as good competitively and have better SQ for not a whole lot more.   Still though can't go wrong with a 598.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I'm not super familiar with the card but I can't imagine that the shield blocks out all EMI/system noise.     Unless SBX means that much to you there's no real reason not to go external.  Better DAC/AMP options available at similar or lower prices.     And truth be told Dolby Headphone is a...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

ZxR has plenty of power but you may at some point look at going external with your sound set up.  Internal sound cards are subject to EMI.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

The 400i's are going to have much less of a soundstage then X2's.  Heck the 560's don't have nearly the soundstage X2's do.   The 400i's aren't going to have as much slam as X2s either.  However they are going to have pretty great sub-bass.  Really nice texture down low.  Now keep in mind I've...

New M8 DAC from SMSL (9018/XMOS)

Does anyone have an idea how this compares to a Peachtree DAC ITx?  It uses an older ESS 9023 chip.  I'm just curious if anyone's heard both and had thoughts.   I like the Peachtree and I'm using it with an Asgard 2 which I like as well.  I don't know I don't have a huge issue with either...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

You're not wrong.  I think the introduction of the high quality orthodynamic models in the last couple years will push companies like AKG and Senn to up their build quality.  I mean Hifiman isn't perfect but when you hold anything from a 400i to an LCD2 you know your holding a well put together...

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)

That's a shame.   Little adapter like that and a pair of X2s/598s or some other easy to drive / high quality headphone would be the ticket for console gaming.   I don't know why no audio company has figured out yet that there's a market for Dolby headphone with a strong amp.  Or at least the...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I like your review quite a bit.  Nice specific impressions   I don't really agree with the premise.  I find the mids on the X2's about as good as anything I've heard.  I think the bass and the mids are the real strength of this headphone.  To be honest I don't find them V-shaped.  Bass...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

No no you should get a DAC/AMP combo.  I'm just saying that X2's require little power so get something with a great DAC and don't worry as much about the AMP portion.     Lot's of great products out there.  Schiit Fulla, Micca Origen, Geek Out line, C5 etc etc.     I'm looking for a portable...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

I'd get the Audioengine.  The E5 has some cool features like SBX virtual surround that are limited to PC only.  With an Xbone you are not really taking full advantage of the device.   The X2's don't even really need an amp.  For me I my Asgard 2 doesn't even go past 1/4 on low gain most of the...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

These have bass but I don't think I'd describe them as V-Shaped at all.  I find the headphone quite balanced overall.  It's only the slightest of emphasis on bass.  Really more warm then bassy even.     I'd really like to see Philips tackle a 500 dollar flagship type of open headphone building...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

The X2's are open and open headphones when you get right down to it are better then closed.  Not that an extremely well engineered closed headphone can't exist.   So yeah soundstage, imaging, seperation of instruments.  An open headphone with good slam is actually a pretty rare thing.  The AKG...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Well like I said I think they are pretty much on par with 560s.  Better then HD 700's for sure.   Can't say I disagree but I'm still in the honeymoon phase with mine.  Will be interesting to see how I feel in two weeks because I initially really liked my HD700's until I couldn't stand them for...
