Dali's Soft Magnetic Composite Driver
So are you saying that those hearing aids that are better in sound location do so because they reproduce frequencies beyond 20khz? I'd like to see some evidence of these ultrasonic hearing aids.- old tech

Vinyl having better sound imaging?
Oh come on, seriously? this is a sound science forum. RBCD is a higher fidelity format than vinyl, including all the measurements which leads to an accurate reproduction of the soundstage in the recording mix, you know like crosstalk and frequency response. If RBCD sounds like carboard images...- old tech

How do you measure sound stage?
That's not necessarily true. Vinyl playback (especially on lower quality or poorly calibrated turntables) produce a fake sound stage effect. Many soundbars also produce an intentionally wide (again fake) sound stage sound. Granted that in either case it is not a sound stage in the recording or...- old tech

IEM tips, more than just fit?
The Austrian school of economics and their ilk are right wing nonsense and very much on the fringe of society and economics. The same can be said about your verbose views on ethics.- old tech

IEM tips, more than just fit?
Your definition of a free market is contestable. Discrimination, just to name one aspect, is not force yet hardly ethical. To further complicate things, force can be an attribute of a free market.- old tech

Sound Science Music Thread: Pass it on!
No, that would have been before my time. What I meant though, our diet of top 40 radio music in the 70s mainly consisted of Australian, British and US hits.- old tech

If you mean Jabra, yes. I have a pair of their higher end IEMs and quite impressed with them, particularly the software which adjusts each side to your hearing profile.- old tech

Testing audiophile claims and myths
I had an ultrasound test on my kidneys the other day. I couldn't hear it or feel it (apart from the cold gel). I suppose I don't have superman hearing.- old tech

Acoustic Shadow
There is the wispering wall in South Australia where a soft wisper can be heard 140 metres away due to a parabolic effect of sound waves bouncing along the wall. https://barossawinetour.com.au/blog/what-makes-the-whispering-wall-in-the-barossa-valley-so-special/- old tech

Question about FIR Filtering
It is quite useful for LP playback with some records that may be slightly warped, that is the main reason why most high end phono pre-amps (or amps) have a subsonic filter function. Subsonic sound can also create distortions in audible frequencies either directly or through feedback through the...- old tech

Songs with tube sound?
Many (most) of Steve Hoffman's masterings are done through tube gear, for example Paul McCartney CDs. However I agree there is no such thing as a tube sound, unless you mean the type of distorted sound through tubes. The reality is that a tube amp can be as transparent as a solid state amp but...- old tech

Hi-res recording from vinyl: Something missing?
The other thing that many don't appreciate is that most of these older recordings (eg PF Animals) were recorded on analogue tape. It is not possible to magically make the recordiings hi res simply by releasing it in a hi res format. The sound quality benefits from the 'hi res' releases typically...- old tech

Compressed Audio Question
Yeah but he uses an inferior Apple mobile phone which even in 2023, doesn't allow SD cards to expand storage. It's another way that company sucks in consumers by forcing an expensive upsell to a mobile with more capacity, which still isn't enough.- old tech
