    Bose QC35 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones

I guess they could if they wanted to. The question is whether they ever will. The current option is Google Assistant or cycle NC between High/Low/Off - at the moment that's the closest you're going to get. For me seeing as I was buying from new I decided to get the II's as the ANC cycling is...

    Sony MDR-1000X

It's not just the inane chatter cutting into the music, more just the inane chatter full stop! I've developed a deep intolerance of people in general...

    Sony MDR-1000X

You're right in your interpretation of what I meant. The 1000MX2's did sound better but imo listening on the move is compromised at best so SQ not the most important thing to me. I have a pair of Hifiman HE1000 v2's at home fed by a Trilogy 931 amp and there's simply no point trying to compete...

    Bose QC35 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Headphones

Having just picked up a pair of QC35 II's I thought I would post my initial thoughts. I think first off it is important to say I bought these for one reason - ANC. At home I listen on a pair of HifiMan HE1000K mkII's through a Trilogy 931 amp and a Rega DAC and if I want the ultimate listening...

    Sony MDR-1000X

I demo'd a pair of 1000XM2's, admittedly just in a store, however they did exhibit a strange behaviour. With NC on but no music playing they seemed to replicate (very faintly) whatever tune was playing over the store's sound system. This wasn't just noise cutting through the NC - the...

    Beats Studio3

You can indeed now turn off the NC on the QC35's with the latest firmware and app version as well as select a 'low' option for the NC also. The QC35 II's go one further and allow you to reconfigure the Google Assistant button to cycle through the NC modes.

    Sony WI-1000X Brief Review

Note this is review is for the WI-1000X and not the WF-1000X I so wanted to like these headphones- I commute by train from Sheffield to Manchester (around an hour) every day and wanted to block the din of the train out. I also like to travel light so was hoping to avoid over the ear 'phones...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I should note as well I'm talking about the WI1000X and not the WF1000X which I understand to be better iro of NC

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Yes definitely turned on. Voice confirmation and via app. Fiddled with all the settings, ran the calibration thing etc. Genuinely they made absolutely no difference at all to what I could here in a busy supermarket. I'd say they reduce background noise by about 5% just putting them in raising...

    Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

Slightly OT but since you asked. They sound very very nice for a pair of BT IEM's but the ANC is essentially useless. It's almost impossible to tell if it's on or off it's that poor. Bitterly disappointed and mine are going straight back. Given Sony make what are basically the same headphones...

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

I know-damn my ears :p It was actually at Paul & Wendy's that I first heard them when auditioning amps. I had chosen the amp and thought what the heck I may as well try a few other cans whilst I was there. Trouble is it was 5pm. and they were getting ready to leave so I didn't have long but...

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

I've made a few comparisons on this thread and also the HEK thread. You absolutely hit the nail on the head though with what troubled me about the Utopia-they're almost too dynamic. The HEK v2 is so very close in terms of detail, resolution, speed etc but I find my self getting lost in the...

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

It's beryllium's lack of a sound that makes the Utopia sound like it does. Means it is uncoloured and very accurate in sound wave reproduction.

The Utopia is similar but by no means the same. To me the HEK v2 is the better sound but you my like Focal's offering. Alternatively if you have the v1 the v2 ironed out a lot of The manufacturing issues.

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

Beryllium is very difficult to work with. Very rigid but also very brittle. It took 2 years to come up with the right manufacturing process for the driver's in the Utopia. I'd imagine 15" of the stuff would be extraordinarily difficult and obscenely expensive.

    Official HIFIMAN HE1000 Impressions Thread

I don't like the Hugo! Quite simple really. I understand why people do but for me it's selling headphones like the HEK short. Decent dac and a decent headphone amp with a decent power supply. Ymmv etc

I didn't realise that re the rca out. One more reason not to buy the Hugo!

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

No it generates sound through vibrations and given the properties of the material adds very little of its own 'colour'. Berylium on its own has no sound at all. Put a lump of it on your table and listen :p

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

I'd argue the opposite. They're pursuing it because it adds very little to the sound.

    Official HIFIMAN HE1000 Impressions Thread

Why is it absurd. Many people use just the Dac of the Hugo preferring another amp instead. Have you ever heard any if the amps in question, can you be sure they do not benefit the sound? If you have never heard a Hugo / proper amp combo you cannot make this comment. I would take a proper amp...

    Official HIFIMAN HE1000 Impressions Thread

I think only your ears can answer that. What one person prefers another may not. I cannot see how you could not like the 931 and its very neutral allowing the headphone to work its magic bit that's not to say you would not like one of the others more. I think with the MicroZOTL being an OTL...
