    Review: NAD Viso HP50

Indrajit – This is so long ago, I don't really remember, and I don't own these headphones anymore. Also, it seems I can no longer see the photos in the gallery I'd posted... My guess would be that what I described as "loose black foam" in item 2, was without any glue from production. The other...

Poll: Do you believe in burn-in of headphones?

Thank you PL4Y3R 0N3, for your thoughts. Like you, I don't think it is matter of one OR the other, but rather acclimatization AND physical changes in the drivers. For example, one of the things I didn't like about the Shure SRH1540 at first, was the amount of bass (in some recordings). This is...

Poll: Do you believe in burn-in of headphones?

I was skeptical about burn-in - until today!   I've had a pair of Shure SRH1540 for a couple of weeks, and I've listened quite a lot to them in that time. Today, I got a new, unused pair of the same model, produced just one month prior to the other one (there is a bar-code sticker with a date...

[CLOSED] Female Vocalist Olympic challenge: Amber Rubarth & Rachel Z

Amber Rubarth Thanks for the fun challenge! I think it is a great way to promote all the contestants! I might never have stumbled upon many of the artists without this...

SRH1540 vs SRH940 vs Focal Spirit Pro

For me music is purely enjoyment, so I don't know much about headphone needs for professional use (recording, mixing, monitoring etc.)   I have owned and loved my open-back Sennheiser HD580 Precision, the predecessors of the HD600, for more than 20 years. Along with the HD600, the HD580 are...

    Marantz HD-DAC1

I originally bought the HD DAC1 with the intention of using it as a pre-amp. I had an old YAMAHA A700 (mid 1980's) integrated amplifier which had been modified with pre-out and main-in sockets. The tone controls etc. were oxidized and there were intermittent connections - it all seemed to be in...

Shure SRH-940 Crack and their service!

Thanks again Extorsivo! I contacted Shure EU about the Roman numeral II and about the the headband issue. The guy I communicated with said the II was pure marketing and that there was no difference. Regarding the headband issue he claimed they had improved the build quality after becoming aware...

Shure SRH-940 Crack and their service!

I noticed on Shure's UK homepage that they call this headphone "SRH940 Reference Studio Headphones II" - note the "II" at the end! I can't seem to find any information on how the "II" differs from the original version. Could it be (I so wish!) they've finally done something about the poor...

Shure SRH-940 Crack and their service!

Wow, thank you very much! It is quite a bit smaller than the oval on the Kingston Hyper Cloud X then: 76-60,5=15,5 mm on the short axis and 96-80,4=15,6 mm on the long axis - that would mean a gap of about 15.6/2 = 7.8 mm. I was hoping for a better (closer) fit. The 79.5 mm measurement I...

Shure SRH-940 Crack and their service!

Quote: Thanks for that! I don't have the srh940, but from all I can read they seem to be exactly what I am looking for. The headband issue being a major reason not to get them. I wish Shure would make some headphones with the same build as srh1540, but with the sound of the srh940!  ...

aftermarket replacement headbands ( for Shure SRH940 )

Thanks for those links!   I don't have the srh940, but from all I can read they seem to be exactly what I am looking for. The headband issue being a major reason not to get them. I wish Shure would make some headphones with the same build as srh1540, but with the sound of the srh940!  ...

    Review: NAD Viso HP50

Long before I got the HP50's I had the Sennheiser HD580 Precision - and I still do. These are my favorite pair of headphones. I wouldn't say the sound signature is the same as the HP50's, but I still like both. My quest is somewhat the opposite of yours - I have an open pair I am perfectly happy...

    Review: NAD Viso HP50

I've now concluded that even with the size adjustment fully collapsed - the HP50 are too big for me. I'll need to add some extra padding to the underside of the headband.   The reason I didn't notice was because I was lying down a lot of the time I was listening to them, and hence gravity...

    Review: NAD Viso HP50

The creaking was driving me nuts! So I decided to analyze the problem. And in the process I found a simple fix, just adding a small piece of electrical tape...   I took some photos with my iPhone, somewhat documenting the process, see this gallery: ...

    Review: NAD Viso HP50

Thank you for your input Johnny! It is not a matter of fit - it's parts rubbing against each other that creates the creaking noise - and it has nothing to do with the signal. Just picking the headphones up create the physical creaking noise! Of course it is worse/louder when it is on your head...

    Review: NAD Viso HP50

Sorry if this has been covered already (haven't read through the whole thread): Has anybody found a remedy for the creaking noises these headphones apparently are known for?   Just got a pair of these yesterday to replace my Focal Spirit Professional. While I thought the sound of the Focal...

    Marantz HD-DAC1

Regarding burn-in - I haven't noticed any long term improvement with burn-in for the HD-DAC1.   However, from the first day I had it, the difference in sound quality between right after turning it on and after it has had time to "warm up" is quite noticeable. The problems I had with random...

A closed back headphone to compliment my Sennheiser HD580?

Quote:   I ended up buying the (hardly) used pair of Focal Spirit Professional, and saved a little over 30% compared to the best price I could find for a new pair. I received them today and just spent a few hours listening through some of my music collection. They are good, but I still...

    Marantz HD-DAC1

I can confirm that I have no hum or noise whatsoever, under any circumstance. I got my unit replaced with a newer unit, where they had taken care of my problem in production. So if you get a newer unit you should be fine. My new unit has serial number 66001450000563 and is a 230V European version.

    CanJam Music Appreciation Contest

I have already listed seven tracks in an earlier post, but I've got to add one more track:   Carly Simon - "De Bat (fly in me face)" from the album "Boys In The Trees" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_epO8pUPz4

    CanJam Music Appreciation Contest

I've tried to limit myself and have narrowed it down to the following seven tracks:   Holly Cole - “Too Darn Hot” from the Album “Shade” (simplicity, complexity, bass, drums, vocals, piano, strings, horns, flute, clarinet - this track has it all!)...

A closed back headphone to compliment my Sennheiser HD580?

Thanks!   I wonder if it is only in Europe that the 7520 are discontinued? They do list them, but with a a red "DISCONTINUED" text following the title, as can be seen here: http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/product/broadcast-products-professional-audio-headphones/mdr-7520/support/ You can change...

A closed back headphone to compliment my Sennheiser HD580?

Looking more into the Sony MDR-7520, my local sony site says it is discontinued. They list an MDR-7510, that looks very similar. Is the MDR-7510 the successor to the MDR-7520?
