I am cranking the pot full with a song on pause. It's silent.

Listening to the amp as I type this. To my ear it's dead silent. The dynamic of the black is so deep, when any instrument breaks in, it's from a steep floor. If you got noise, I'd send it back. Of course after you troubleshoot it, cables etc....

Can't say I notice any noise. BUT, a big but, I am 25yrs in a recording studio and my ears don't pick up subtle hiss at all.  I am not the best judge for noise floor, lol. 

After 4 days with my C5, mostly listening at the gym with my SE846. I couldn't be happier. Expanded sound stage is worth every penny alone. The amp brings a level of excitement to the 846's  that is just fantastic.  The whole reason i bought it was for my HE400i's, now I'm glued to it!

The Amp was purchased to run my HE400i's, for which the AK100ii just couldn't satisfy them. I listen to my 846 at least an hour a day. When I ran the Amp with se846 the sound stage and energy was significantly improved, I won't be able to listen without it now because it sounds that GOOD!

I got my C5 today. Paired it with my Ak100ii and HE400i.  Brought these cans to life. Really nice soundstage. The bass boost is excellent. I'm a big Dave Mathews fan, the amp took the listen to a new level. Bliss!. Gonna give my SE846 a try next. 

I took delivery of the Cayin C5 Portable Amp today. The difference running my HE400i with AK100ii paired with the C5, is one of those chuckling,  holy crap moments. They sound like totally different cans. Audio bliss!  Gonna give my SE846 a try next. 

All the good responses have got me curious. I am receiving my C5 tomorrow to pair with my AK100ii.  The Ak drives my SE846 nicely, but I got a pair of HE400i's and I think the C5 will give them a little more room to breathe. Keep ya posted. Dan

I am just an audio engineer. If there's one thing I know it's this , if my attenuator /volume pot/ etc has to operate at almost max to drive something just to reach normal levels(a guitar, a microphone, a headphone) the it's underpowered. If you think it sounds Ok, then it's good for ya, for me...

Sorry, but at 67  the unit is pushing to hard. I never said "lacking",  its grainy at that volume. Its very noticeable. 

I just got the 400i for xmas, I have the AK100ii. Love the AK with my se846. Not enough juice for 400i though, pushing about 65 on the volume. Can you guys give me a few recommendations for  portable headphone amp under 500.00?   A desktop tube amp would be fine also as I don't think I will be...

Any of you guys use the HD 650 or similar priced over the ear with the ak100ii. I have the se846, no amp. Just thinking of getting a pair for home use.

My update stalled at 22% and I cancelled and tried again, second attempt was flawless. GOOD NEWS! My volume attenuation issue with last weeks update is now fixed. Volume knob now changes in .5 increments again. Thank go cause over the weekend it was bugging the hell out of me. I go from 45.0 to...

Update: AK Support responded and I should expect an answer or solution by Monday. They are sending info to Korea. They said another user is having the same problem. 

I can confirm that my 100ii shuts down correctly post firmware.

I contacted AK, let's see how customer service is.

Didn't try reloading current. I want to go back a version. It's funny because the first time it asked me to update I didn't. Should of left it alone!
