To be honest, comparing the Explorer 2 to the 100r i don't hear much difference...... Like yourself I'd like to have tried it though.

It's odd I have tried to use explorer 2 with pioneer, as you say it does not power up. Works flawlessly though my phone though.

I have the hp-a8 and the gain is 20, it state's 24 level gain on the mk2 but the amp section seems the same.

Actually isn't it correct that the A8 and the A8c are identical apart from aesthetically, and the mk2 has additional filters and it appears slightly more gain adjustment - 25. From fostex.
