Interesting,  i have no issues with SQ on ALC889.

Personally, I have never had issues with the optical on any of my MBP's.

The E12 can, not sure about the others.

Are you using cases? I have a pair of crappy Sennheiser's that are going on 7 years old that I have treated like absolute crap but they are still going strong.

Depends... After Effects will quickly yoink 16 of my 32. Sometimes more when rendering. If you are using Adobe products I would drop the RAM and pick up an Nvidia card with as many cuda cores as you can, scrubbing real time makes a difference in productivity rather than doing RAM previews all...

Do you have a specific budget? The E12 is definitely more than enough for 990/250's. The battery life is pretty amazing too IMO.

I am loving it too, although my amp experiences are limited to the E12 and the Ocean. But the Ocean really brings out the bass of the DT-990, even with the stock tube. I think it sounds great.

The 770 are great, but they are no 880 or 990. The soundstage of the open and semi-open BD's are on another level IME. But, if you need closed cans they are great. I use my 770's at work. I also got the "leather" pads from BD for my 770's and the bass gets better, but the soundstage suffers.
