Maybe my ears are bad because I never get this feeling when listening to em. I listen to em through a Fiio E17 and they do sound very good, they just never confuse me for speakers or make me think the sound is coming from infront of me.

MA900 is great for movies but really only shines if you pair it with like an astro mixamp or some other decent surround sound processor at least in my opinion.

  This + the fact that most consumers aren't audiophiles so wouldn't even know one smartphone has a better DAC then another, all they would know is that the iPhone doesn't have a proper headphone jack and the other smartphones do.

I think it's just the fact that I went from an open back headphone known for sub-bass roll off to a closed back known for emphasized sub-bass.   I'm using a Fiio E17 which is said to be a good pairing for the MA900. I am just desiring the MA900 sound with a bit of sub-bass rumble.

Got my ATH-M50 back today and I do enjoy the change. That sub-bass is addictive and the Sony MA900 has no weight or body in the bass in comparison, it just has a nice punch.

Well I have no experience in DIY nor do I trust myself trying any of that as I know I would end up doing more harm then good.   I could probably pay someone to do a detachable cable mod and could probably then buy a more durable cable. Also, some of the velour Shure pads fit on the MA900 but...

My only real complaint with the MA900s is the cable. It's not detachable and I am afraid it isn't gonna last me too long. It's got minor bite marks from like the 2nd day I even had the headphones because the cats were trying to get the cable when I let my sister listen to them.

Sony MDR-MA900 1. Thicker earpads of velour material 2. Detachable cable 3. Thicker more durable stock cable 4, Deeper bass extension, but rest of sound the same 5. Everything else the same   Great for any genre, especially acoustic and orchestral music.
