What actually is the difference between a cheap transparant DAC (like the ODAC) and a expensive one?

Well the title says it basically but, i would like it to sound different than my Sennheiser hd 650 (for the people who don't know, it is a rather dark sounding headphone) cause i don't want to have 2 headphones which sound the same(ish). btw what do you guys think of the Hifiman RE-400?

Im looking for a DAC (as i'm now dubble amping with the e17) I can spend around 150 euro (200 dollars). I would preferably want one I can also use if i buy a better amp than my 15 year old phillips :). I did find the Argon DAC 1, does anyone know how it sounds?
