Why do people like bass so much?
There is? Want to link to some research or evidence? Peopel have skills preferences, as you call it, but there's no proof to suggest these are inherited. How would you know? I mean.. if someone is predisposed to be a musician, it's not something you'll realise until the child is older. ...- pookeyhead

Why do people like bass so much?
That implies racial or genetic memory, and there appears to be no proof that such a think exists... not in humans anyway.- pookeyhead

Best recorded albums of all time?
Without a doubt..... Roger Waters - Amused To Death. It sounds sublime. Like others have said in here... I don't get the whole Dark Side Of The Moon thing. I'm sure it's something people just like to think is a great sounding album.. a case of the Emporer's new clothes.. as if no...- pookeyhead

Your Favorite Band of All Time
I really can't decide. I've narrowed it down to three. Muse Queen Abba Yes... I'm serious with that last one :) Ask me what my favourite album is, and you'd get a different answer.- pookeyhead

How to properly break in headphones
Any research or references to back that up? The cable burning in? Come on.... that's gotta be audiophile nonsense. Can you explain exactly what happens to the cable on burn in? I mean really what happens? Sceptical. [edit] Spent all night researching this and come to the...- pookeyhead

CD stuck in Mac Pro
This is just one reason why Macs annoy me. Would it hurt to have a mechanical eject system that you can poke a straightened paper clip into like a generic optical drive for a PC? Any way.... you really going to just go and buy a new drive without trying the common methods of extracting...- pookeyhead

How To tell between a 'real' FLAC and a 'fake' FLAC?
Spectro doesn't play nice with files over 10 mins. Seeing as it's common practice to have the entire album as one FLAC and then use a .cue file, Spectro is a bad idea. Try... http://losslessaudiochecker.com/- pookeyhead

Different sized flac tracks
What's the point of ripping a CD to 24/96 though if the original source is 16/44. Surely this is utterly pointless? Someone used a photography analogy further up the thread, and they are correct. You can increase the resolution of the digital image, but there will be no more detail in it. ...- pookeyhead

Mouse -Fi
Logitech G5 here. I hope it doesn't break, because every other gaming mouse out there is either too small, too light, or shaped as if it's designed to be used by a mechanoid instead of a human being :)- pookeyhead

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
I just thought I'd add some thoughts on the DT880s. I've had them for a few weeks now, but only just got them hooked up to the Schiit Modi/Magni. I've just listened to Roger Water's "Amused To Death" which is a great test. It's beautifully recorded, and listening to a lossless file, I'm...- pookeyhead

VBR quality? what does it mean?
I've done extensive blind testing with LAME/CDex, and I've arrived at this. That's my default ripping setting now if I need MP3. Ordinarily... I'd use a lossless format.- pookeyhead

A short (audiophile) guide to Winamp (/w Maiko WASAPI)
I've decided to add a switch to the +5v line in the USB cable, so when I switch the cable to the Modi off, the PC will default to the Realtek Speaker output. Should work.- pookeyhead

Windows 8.1 Pro I can manually switch, yeah... I was wondering really, is there a way to automatically switch other than unplugging my DAC?- pookeyhead

A short (audiophile) guide to Winamp (/w Maiko WASAPI)
A question. As a Head-Fier.... I'm only rally concerned with the quality from my headphones. My speakers aren't really that great, and they are driven by the Realtek Hi Definition Speaker output from my motherboard. When I listen to the speakers, I use the Realtek Speaker output as the...- pookeyhead

Buying Schiit in the UK
Is there anywhere in the UK that sells Schiit amps? I know I can order direct, but after duty, VAT and shipping, it adds a LOT to the cost. I can't find anywhere in the UK... nothing on Ebay. Am I missing something? Thanks- pookeyhead

how good are our ears exactly?
You tube videos are terrible for this. The highly compressed nature of the sound means there's all manner of noise artefacts in the higher tones. You're probably not hearing the actual 19KHz tone at all. Download this http://www.cool-lab.com/media/HearingTest.zip It's...- pookeyhead
