What book are you reading right now?
Interestingly, my university makes almost all its students read Marx for a year in their education here. My reading of Marx (ie my teacher's reading of Marx) was not a class-struggle one -- in fact, we did not talk about class conflict even once! Rather, we talked about internal contradictions...- Nusho

What book are you reading right now?
I have been reading a lot of Marx lately. Just started on David Harvey's The Condition of Postmodernity, and its really good. Strangely enough, I've become pretty anti-capitalist/ pro- marxist over the past few months :D.- Nusho

What book are you reading right now?
Frightening profiles ...you will have to explain that one to me :D (Im guessing it has something to do with the size of peoples inventories here on head fi) As for the environment in DC, it certainly is very odd. But no where as meaningful as Kafka's work, making politics quite a bore.- Nusho

What book are you reading right now?
Thank you for the tips on Faulkner. As for Kafka, before getting into him I would read an autobiography of him from the internet (Wikipedia can fulfill this). Kafka's writing is heavily inspired by his life experiences, so coming in armed with knowledge about his life may help penetrate his...- Nusho

VSonic GR07 Bass Edition Impressions
Something interesting happened today. I was cleaning the nozzle of my left gr07be earbud, and as soon as my cleaning cloth made contact with the metal part in the nozzle, I heard a bunch of static in my right earbud. Does anyone know why this could happen, or was it just dumb luck? By the way...- Nusho

What book are you reading right now?
All I have ever been able to get through are Faulkner's short stories. How can I start reading The Sound and the Fury without being utterly confused? Are there any books I should read beforehand to train me? And to make this comment relevant to the thread, Ive recently been reading all of...- Nusho

Being an old soul
As someone who has been called an old soul on multiple accounts, I would argue that I can pinpoint the developments that led me to be more "mature" compared to my peers. This would suggest that not everyone is born an old soul, but that it depends greatly on environment as well. Of course, brain...- Nusho

We are the mid point
To be honest we may have advanced colonization technology far before the Earth will be destroyed by natural forces. So people will largely be living elsewhere and their connection to Earth won't be that strong (perhaps historical connection will exist, but little experiential connect will). I...- Nusho

College! (Tips, Discussion, Ideas)
Agreed. Part of the reason I chose a college in Chicago instead of where I live is precisely this. By throwing myself into a new environment with new people, I hope ill figure out what I stand for, my best qualities, and my deepest faults. Thats a great story, thanks for sharing! I...- Nusho

People aging differently
You've made a great observation! I once had a teacher who was 50 but looked like he was 30. He told me his family generally ages well, implying a genetic component influenced his young looking face. Overall do you think it is genetic or people taking really good care of their bodies?- Nusho

Associate of Arts & Sciences: which title would you choose?
You are correct in that US colleges have general education requirements which almost always require an individual to dabble in philosophy. As for what exactly is studied in philosophy, it is hard to say. The field is so broad. If you study emotions then you would be useful for firms that...- Nusho

Associate of Arts & Sciences: which title would you choose?
Probably philosophy -- rigorous, not cliche, heightens interest in you, and everyone ends up asking you what the meaning of life is :D- Nusho

Social friction is normal
We are all different individuals. We tend to stick with people who seem similar to us and stay away from those who seem different, lessening this friction. However, we then get to know the people who seem similar to us, and as we uncover layer upon layer about them, we discover broad and vast...- Nusho
