Tried out the M50x but didnt like the highs. Is the X1 anything like it?

The 598 looks like old yellowing computer components to me, but whatever...I have really enjoyed how much better they have sounded over time. Great for gaming too.

My local Guitar Center had several Beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro Headphones (250 Ohm) on clearance for $169. I was returning a ATH-M50x and almost bought one. Decided to save my money for something better down the line.

I got the M50x this weekend (after having the M50s and then returning them). The M50x is enjoyable but they are still too V-shaped for me, so they are probably going to be returned as well. Thanks for posting the deal. I snagged the last one. I was just about to run out to Guitar Center for a set today, too. I had the M50 previously and returned it because the treble was just too fierce for me. Hopefully the new version works out.

Looks like Amazon finally fixed the price of the Momentums, back up to $299. It's just as well; I was still on the fence.

I wasn't sure what kind of Loctite to use, but after poking around the web it looks like the Super Glue Gel is the way to go.

Had my M-80s for only a few months and one of the red V accents on the outside of headband is coming off. Each V is a little strip of metal held in place with a couple of little tabs that slide into the headband and some (weak) adhesive. The V got snagged on something and almost got ripped off...

Really, only two sentences regarding the sound of this awesome headphone?

My favorite part of the FR of these is its emphasis on the sweet spot where kick drums are usually heard, so it's ideal for listening to music (for me electronic, etc.) while running, treadmill, etc. I think the cord is a good length, but keep in mind that the cord is detachable and any cord...

The cable I had replaced came with the M-80s, which their warranty covers. Mine were still under warranty, however I didn't even have to show proof of purchase, just a photo of my "destroyed" old cable.   The replacement cable is actually a little different than the original, but it's better...

What a great company to do business with. My 3-button cable stopped working correctly and all I had to do to get a replacement was to send them a photo of my old cable cut up to show that it would no longer be used. They had a new cable in the mail to me within only a couple hours. Fantastic!

The M-80 will never sound like the M-100. The M-80 are a different headphone with a different, more neutral sound profile.

So, I just picked up the HD598. They sound very similar to the HD518 (that I already own), apart from the bass emphasis of the 518, which seems to bleed into the upper range of frequencies, resulting in less clarity across the board. I suppose the 558 would be a happy medium between the two: fun...

Fit is definitely all over the place for these, so good sound can be hit or miss. The biggest issue apart from that is the resonance, which can get out of control with a poor fit.

For me, it's fairly simple: listening to music with portable headphones can turn a boring, mundane ride on the metropolitan bus into a profound and deeply moving experience.

Those are all fair assessments. They are missing a bit of sparkle, but they seem to suit the music I listen to well without being fatiguing in the slightest. There's a particular emphasis on the kick drum which fits in with the DJ heritage of the brand.
