How do I live with my first IEMs?

A few weeks ago I picked up a pair of UE500. The sound is good, but I cannot deal with them. It isn't discomfort, it 's pain. They slide out of my ears if I don't jam them in deep enough for either the vacuum pressure to cause pain or the tips themselves pressing on one point. I think I would...

    Four cans in my cart: DT990, SR225, ESW9, D2000

Is that through a particular amp/source or across the board?   I need to rename the thread to "Two cans in my cart: 325is & HD600"   Weren't even in the running at the whistle, yet they take the lead.

    Four cans in my cart: DT990, SR225, ESW9, D2000

Excellent opinions, guys.  I think I can narrow it down to the HD600 and the SR225/325 at this point.  I have a feeling i will end up owning both.   I'm a bit surprised by the 325 suggestions.  It seems so widely agreed that the 225 is the sweet spot and you're not getting much for that...

    The PA2V2 Thread

My PA2V2 is seven years old and I wouldn't let it go.  It has a little noise and it's not the most powerful, but the flavor is excellent.

    Four cans in my cart: DT990, SR225, ESW9, D2000

I have sold my HFI 780 (sounded okay, miss em slightly) and ES7(honky mids).  I retained my SR60 and HD485, half because they're not worth much and half because I like them.   I just got my first IEM, the UE 500, which oddly enough I really enjoy with the long untouched PA2V2 for flavor...

Been out of the game, need some hind/in-sight

Thanks, Hammer.     Just going through the "regret" thread and I see a lot of 595.   One in particular said that it sounds almost identical to the 485, with better soundstage, which I'm assuming will require great amplification to ever hear.  Seeing as I love my 485, unamped, that's...

Been out of the game, need some hind/in-sight

Hey guys,   Years ago when I got into headphones, the top cans were the K701, HD595, HD650, RS1, etc.  I get in and out every couple years and my last purchase was the HFI 780, which I'm quite pleased with.   I just noticed how dramatically the price has dropped on the 595 and 701, and...

    Penguin Delux Amp?

top right, my penguin royal with the same massive 3300µF capacitors. i paid $100 more than you did, gaining only a gain switch, bass boost/cut, and crossfeed. i really don't use any of them. you did very well for your money. yes, yes, much portable junk. i'm workin on it.

CURSE You Head-Fi! The next stage.

i was gone a while too. thought i got out with merely a pa2v2 and sr60. just came back to get the hd485, es7, penguin royal, hfi-780, and a bunch of vintage pcdp's. considering the RE0. think i'll go listen now.

Advice Sought for a Musician Friend

i'm a recording musician and i've used the sr60 for almost four years. i don't see why they need to be closed since many singers take one phone off so they can hear themselves while they record. my sound guy always recommends the Equation Audio RP-21 to everyone, so i'll throw that one in but i...

Impressions: a week with the HFI-780

i think they're plenty comfortable. i was really driven to buy these because the ES-7 sounded good but felt not merely uncomfortable but painful after two hours or so. i listen to a good mix of genres, and they all sound great. metal is my favorite and it seems to be the hardest for a...

Impressions: a week with the HFI-780

Seven days ago these phones were delivered. Including listening time, I think they have over 100 hours of burn in. From various CD players to the Penguin Royal, or the Sansa Clip, these things deliver exactly what I wanted plus more. I'm noticing new things in music I've been listening to for...

    Koss/Enigma Audio PortaPro (impressions)

i'm a huge fan of the porta pro, the old black ktx-pro being my main headphones for years before i found head-fi. you had just beat me to snatching those. when you get tired of em, i'll be waiting.

I've had enough low end cans.

They were just delivered. Can't wait till these are all burned in but for out of the box I'm already quite pleased. I was up until 3am last night recording with the sr60 and today I was mastering with the hd485. Just continuing to work with these and the song sounds better than it did with the...
