Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Sennheiser will of course say there is no difference. I don’t think anyone should believe there is a difference until someone gathers a few Ireland copies and a few Romanian copies and shows there is a measurable difference. But people will come to their own conclusions.

What 6x0 model best compliments the 58x?

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Non comparatively speaking, I find the timbre excellent on the 58x. The tonal difference between say rides and high hats is excellent.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I find that the differences between track mixing and EQ are greater than the differences between FR of hd6x0 models. That’s to say if someone listens to a wide catalog of music he/she may find some tracks just right EQwise with one model vs another. Because hd6x0 are rather close FR wise it’s...

Massdrop x Grace Design SDAC - a budget beast

This DAC of course measures well but I find it also has great (micro?) dynamics. Snares and guitar strings are extra snappy.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I tried autoEQ with the graphic EQ for the 58x the other day. I can say that it did appear to remove the bass hump. The sub bass did extend more but I can't say that it added more sub bass detail to the experience (hearing something like note definition in Massive Attack - Angel). I ultimately...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Hi, Can anyone provide me with the following: An example of 58x grain, i.e a specific track and time window to listen to. An example of 58x missing detail, i.e. a track and time window I can grab a more resolving pair and listen for differences. Thanks.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Unfortunately he doesn’t compare the nov18 sample to the 660s. He does say that the nov18 sample would no longer be a good candidate for the felt mod.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

That’s interesting. There’s a rumor floating around that Sennheiser secretly and unbeknownst to Massdrop changed the FR to remove the 650 warmth that was seen in early production 58x making it more 660 like than the early FR measurements suggest. Solderdude measured a Nov18 58x that looks like...

Is this your plot? Can you show the raw as well?

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Can anyone with more HD6 experience help me understand the missing detail better? Something like "when I listen to X I can hear Y with the more detailed phone but not with the 58X" would be greatly helpful. Or, is that not how the term works?

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

There is certainly some evidence of variability. We see on diyaudioheaven that solderdude measured a likely extreme outlier.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

That is interesting given that Magni3 should be low distortion. There could be sample variability between sets.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I have a theory on the grain. I am very sensitive to grain but I find that the 58x + JDS Atom is (almost) grain-free. This could be due to its low distortion? I've used the 58x on other (higher distortion) sources and it's not as smooth as it is with the Atom. Anyone able to confirm?

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

Thanks. It's just silver wire from qables and neutriks form parts express. After burn in and a few weeks of listening, I love the mod. Such nice highs now and the bass isn't boomy.

diymod cable problems with ground hum

Thanks for the help. It shouldn't have anything to do with the ipod because it makes the hum without the ipod plugged in to the cable. I suspect the cable because when I plug in a standard monster RCA to 1/8" to the same RCA inputs, the hum is gone. I checked for shorts on the cable and there...

diymod cable problems with ground hum

Hi,   After I did the diyMod I made a cable with elna caps inside. The cable is to RCA plugs. So I have pins 1+2 going to ground on each RCA plug, and the respective pins 3+4 going to each RCA plug. When I turn on my amp I get a hum. I believe this is a grounding problem. Do I need to ground...

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!

Hi!   Thank you everyone who contributed to this mod!   I just did this mod last night. I used elna slimic ii caps because I couldn't find the black gates. They're great on the high end and balance out the low end (I have a heavy low end).   From what I can hear, it was definitely...

Apple computers: The biggest scam in consumer electronics?

Ah, cute thread. To be honest, I have greater difficulty finding drivers and software for 64bit windows than with osx. That said, I love both.
