    The Stax Thread III

Hi all, Looking for some feedback regarding the  SRM-007T II.  I currently have a SRM T-1 which is partnered to a Koss ESP-950 and it sound really nice but sometimes seems to lack a little drive on some material.   Would going to a SRM-007T be a big step forward or more of a sideways move, I...

Quote: Hi,     Do your self a favour and get a Stax T1 for your ESP-950, truly made a big difference in all areas for me. You will of course have to make or modify your existing cable but it's well worth it.   My ESP-950 frequently exhibited the high pitched whine that many have...

Hi,   I recently purchased an older T1  "B series" that was labeled as 100 volt "Japan only "  .But it had the switch inside, actuually i'ts located on the underside of the circuit board. Just remove the outer cover and then the lower base plate and you should see the switch. It's actually...

Quote:     Ok, using the 12BH7 settings on my tube tester , the good ECC99 tests at 110 for both sections minimum acceptable is 60 , the bad tubes gives no readings at all on either section !   The only thing that seems to work on this tube are the heaters.

Quote:     Good idea I will try that to see how that tube measures up.   Also another weird thing I noticed is that both of my Stax  T-1 units have their AC neutral lead and not the hot lead connected to the inlet fuse ?  With a three prong AC plug inserted I measure ~ 60 volts from...

So , I got my ECC99 tube replacement quicker than expected and yes all is ok now.   I agree that tube dealers should be checking tubes but JJ's  track record is not that great especially for certain types of tubes.   Funny I have an older B&K tube tester but since the ECC99 is a newer...

    The Stax thread (New)

Hi Spitzer,   Thanks for the reply, I think I have a bad tube since if I switch tube positions, the problem is now on the other channel and the previous channel is now OK !   These are brand new  ECC99 tubes from JJ so maybe there is somthing about their quality control that is lacking...

Hi,     I have recently tried the ECC99 mod on my SRM-T1 and all went well until I tried to set the bias,  on left side I was able to get it under one volt but on the right side a get a reading of 400 volts bias and 380 volts for the offset !!   I have rebiased this unit numerous times...

    MHDT Havana DAC

Hi,   No need to run any hook up wire etc, just remove C5 and C25, they are only being used as bypass caps.   Also no difference between 2W and 1W resistors in this application just use 1W,   2 watts are much bigger in size and would be a pain to fit in easily.         Quote...

    MHDT Havana DAC

Just a word of caution to all those looking to upgrade capacitors, some of the Silmic ll caps on Ebay are fakes,  especially those from China. Some are obvious such as  3300uf  @ 50V  etc.   Elna never made a Sillmic ll in any thing over 1000uf  @25v   , 2200uf only goes up to 16v...

    MHDT Havana DAC

Quote: You are correct, but just wondering why "Fathead " changed these to 390 ohms instead of staying with 390K ??

    MHDT Havana DAC

Any specific reason you used 390 ohms , the stock ones on my unit are 390K ? Quote:

    MHDT Havana DAC

Thanks for the info but unless I am color blind the coding on those two resistors in the picture is Orange-White-Black-Black-Brown, which would make it 390 ohms not 390K !     Quote:

    MHDT Havana DAC

Just curious what values are those Sinkoh Tantalum replacement resistor values.......... 100 ohm for the 4 on the side of the tube and looks like 290 ohm for the two others ?   I just looked at my stock Havana and I have 4 100 ohm in the same location but my other two are at 25K  ...

    Zhaolu D3 impressions?

Just picked up a D3 and it's not working for me on any inputs except the optical input ? I hooked up and older Pioneere CD player I use as a transport and also a new DVD player but I am unable to get any sound out of the unit unless I hook up via the optical cable. Pressing the front buttons...
