Quote:   Thanks, it's a custum design penned and built by myself... it's made from layered Styrene sheeting so is fully plastic. The inner case slides out for easy access of the O2's pcb should it be requied.   Paul

Hi all, two things for showing:   1... New case for my O2.   2... SE-SE version of The Wire   And both together...   The case used for the Wire is a little on the large size but it was bought well before I got my hands on the miniscule pcb's designed by opc...

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

Quote: Yep...  ... Found the ref' point also..."SOURCE REQUIREMENTS: The HD 650 has a high impedance (300 ohms) and needs more voltage than most portable devices and PC headphone outputs can provide. Generally you need about 2 volts RMS (5.7 volts peak-to-peak) for wide dynamic range...

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

I now can't find the post I was refering to... but iirc nwavguy built-pionted about the the HD 650's being happy with 2vrms with 5.7v peak, or somthing like that. If I can find the reference again I'll quote it, otherwise just ingnore what I said :)   Quote:

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

Unsure on the overall costings for both. The Wire has limited availability as the current GB has ended, but I'm working on a costing of roughly £150 - £200 for a fully built SE-SE version. The ODA won't be around until next year, nwavguy should be posting an initial update with details somtime...

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

Oops, ocr - opc, my normal read it as one thing & typing it as something completely different... that's normal practice for me & I hate using the D word.   Yeah, probably have posted my intrest in The Wire once or twice more than what is healthy, just a touch of impatience setting in... what...

    The Wire Headphone Amplifier

jdkJake, that looks quite a nice build...   He's doing a 50 of each type GB at the moment [possibly sold out], but there are 3 versions of the headphone amp: balanced - balanced, balanced - se and se - se. All as a pcb only or as a kit.

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

Owen [OCR] has done a fantastic job with The Wire, it looks good & it's measurements look very good... Think he's working on a speaker amp version at the moment, that's on top of the three headphone versions and dedicated psu already done... Got my fingers crossed that I'll be able to get a...

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

LizardKing1: I printed out a copy of the BOM and circuit board diagram for easy reference of part placement, it helped me through my first O2 build. I've no electronics experiance/knowledge and had only built 2 CMoy's before the O2 and it all went smoothly... I'm hoping to get a SE-SE version of...

Total Novice Inquiry Into "Tin Headphone Amps" (Cmoy)

I tried a 4556 in my CMoy before it was fitted into my O2, by far the best opamp i'd used; opa2132, ad823, opa2227 & ad8620... the 4556 drove my HD650's with great gusto and offered up greater detail than any of the opamps managed.

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

Built my desktop version two weeks ago   As it was a 1000 piece GB over on diyAudio, you'd have thought impressions would've been coming in thick & fast by now. Read more about O2 build problems than listening impressions so far.

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

If you want to use a 1/4" output socket the NRJ3HF-1 socket and NRJ-NUT-B locking nut are the recomended replacement parts... this is mounted off-board and wired to P2.

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

It's an easy build, so long as you take your time you should be fine. The bits from Mouser are bagged individually & marked with the componant details which relates to the BOM, cross-refrence this with the pcb layout for part placment and you can't go wrong. If you've never soldered before...

O2 Build Complete: Let the objective, subjective listening tests commence!

cheapskateaudio: Check between S2 [gain switch] and R21, its been reported that they're a little too close togeter and can cause a short, nothing harmful apparently... that's if you've been working in that area....   How about soldering thinner leads onto the thicker ones so you cant still...

    Post pics of your builds....

That's a nice case and a very tidy looking build... I'm now looking through the enclosures on ebay, they're much nicer than the Hammond or Unicase stuff I can get my hands on locally. See if I can find something suitable for my 'Objective 2' & possibly 'The Wire' [if my order with the GB isn't...

    Post pics of your builds....

Hi, I have the gains set to x2.25 & x3.4, the 650's are well driven and there's no sign of that vail...   I can only be subjective about the performance of the O2 as I've not much experience of other headphone amps: Denon AVR-2310 [home cinema amp], CMoy [various opamps] and a Asus Xonar...

    Post pics of your builds....

Hi, finally put my O2 into an enclosure [Hammond 1455N1602BK]. The case is a touch on the large size but the 2nd pcb fits perfect behind the 1st and stops any movement :o)   My plans of a custom made case went horribly wrong, so my O2 has ended up more plain jane than planed...    ...

So, the Objective2 headphone amp - designed entirely around the measurements? (PLEASE READ RULES BEFORE POSTING)

Quote: lol... thanks.   For me the O2 feels transparent, dosen't appear to add or remove anything from the music, plus the tonal signiture is very much that of the headphones.

So, the Objective2 headphone amp - designed entirely around the measurements? (PLEASE READ RULES BEFORE POSTING)

Nothing major, just off-board input, output, power sockets and volume pot... be nice to see what changes are made to the proper destop O2 once it arrives.   Had a good long listening session this evening... Muse, Bring Me the Horizon, The XX, Cinematic Orchestra, Goldfrap, Tchaikovsky's...

So, the Objective2 headphone amp - designed entirely around the measurements? (PLEASE READ RULES BEFORE POSTING)

Hi & thanks, I was being quite meticulous with the wiring, which is why it took just under 5 hrs to build & do the initial testing :)   output, ground & power - 16/0.2 equipment wire, <£3 for 10 meters, think it's 22 awg (from Maplin) left/right input - 16/0.2 single core braided shielded...
