imo, when taking the bus/subway/train/plane/etc you really will appreciate the isolation of an iem. if i were you i'd get a set of decent isolating iems (think shure, ety, etc) as opposed to those semi-canalphones (sony, senn, etc). then save some money for a full-sized headphone for...

best: beyer dt770/80 (slightly edging out the hd580 and mdr7506) worst: tie between hd555 and dr150 (good cans, but redundant when coexisting with the hd580)

i just got the dt770/80 and so far i've been enjoying them. i think they would be totally awesome for college/dorm if i had them back then. that said, they don't sound that great unless you have a good source/amp (this will be true with 90% of all the headphone recommendations on this forum)...

to answer your question- i know for sure that the v150s were available in as early as late 1998. were they out prior to that? - i cannot say for sure. HTH

i agree with all the negative comments regarding hd201. however, if you have a decent source to plug them in to (eg, vintage pcdp), they sound pretty darn good.

i think there are some genuine vendors on ebay (which sells for ~$40+), but the pair i bought few weeks ago (~$20) seem to be fake. in terms of appearance, there's almost no way to distinguish the authentic from the counterfeit items. fyi the fake ones are packaged just like the real ones.

IMO sounds like it could be a loose driver. do a search on the koss a130 driver rattle and you'll see what i mean. i have a pair of junk panasonic headphones that also rattle a bit. but i am no expert with the headphones in question, so i could be mistaken.

yeah i wasn't really impressed by them at first and then my cable became faulty. nevertheless, i kept these around and i've found a new love for them. they sound great even straight from my laptop jack.
