HD480II = the best; but problem is they were my only cans for a long time so there were no "expectations", they merely were what I used. It's only afterwards I realised how good they were (and all newcomers didn't sound as good). CX300 and PX100 = definitely better sound than I expected for...

I've had many 'phones over the years. First one something like Sony MD-V1 or something. Aiwa 17mm in-ear ones (amazing bass), Panny 16mm in-ear ones. Sennheiser HD480II's Sennheiser HD575's (too screechy re:treble for me) Sony MDR-EX71slw (ditto screechy treble) Sennheiser PX100's...

These are FANTASTIC headphones. The sound quality is superb, and they far outclass my other sony mdr-ex71slw 'phones. I have have the excellent Sennheiser PX100's which I'll try to compare to. Sound: Bass...excellent and deep. Unlike the Sony's however, they don't output overblown baggy...

Sennheiser HD480II - gorgeous clear sound, deep bass, great carity & treble, liquid midrange

I have the PX100 and these are fantastic headphones: excellent vfm, razor sharp transients/dynamics, deep "vibrating" bass (better than my previous sony mdr-ex71slw headphones), lovely treble....... ...but my sony's sounded really really bad, so I needed a replacement set of noise isolation...

Probably was Placebo then. As I mentioned though, this test isn't about the top three codecs, more about how low you can go before SQ is unacceptable with portable use.
