What is good about old guitars?
From what I know about violins, the disadvantage to buying a new wooden instrument is that you don't know exactly *how* the wood will change over time.- caterpillar_36

Gil Shaham
A very clean violinist. Love his Sibelius and Four Seasons, and his chamber endeavors are also quite enjoyable (like his Schubert for Two album). A fair number of people seem to think he's not an interesting violinist, for some reason.- caterpillar_36

Their reviews are a bit uneven (straight fives for Led Zeppelin). They're also not very brave. It can be very useful, though.- caterpillar_36

foobar?
For future reference, hydrogenaudio.org has an excellent foobar community. What I suspect is wrong is that you have oggenc2 or something. Whatever the case, you can go to file>preferences>tools>converter and edit the ogg vorbis converter profile. Under the encoder selection you're going to just...- caterpillar_36

HAIR: What do you do with it?
I push all of my hair outside of the headphone cups, because otherwise some of it'll touch the driver and buzz. >.> Around then I usually get a haircut.- caterpillar_36

AKG 271 S + portable amp vs Shure E4C
I don't know the Shure E4C, but there are a couple of obvious considerations you must make. The 271S is a fairly big set, and it has a "floating" headband that can create noise if you're moving your head a lot. It also isn't always stationary when moving around. They're also easier to spot, so...- caterpillar_36

Stradivari
The good people of Violinist.com might be able to suggest a good violin shop, luthier, or the like in your vicinity where you might get some appraisal of its quality/worth. I'd expect that it would be pretty difficult to make a positive identification.- caterpillar_36

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Gotta kinda concur with gratefulshrink. Trout Mask may well be their least accessible album, because of its length and experimental nature. Listening to it *many* more times may open it up for you, but if you're looking for a gentler, more accessible introduction to Beefheart, I'd suggest...- caterpillar_36

20+Gig, FLAC, mp3, gapless and relatively small??????
If the Neuros III ever comes out, it will probably wind up with FLAC and possibly gapless...and that will have some pretty nice hardware to boot. I'm not sure it'll ever work out very well, though. Hope so...- caterpillar_36

listening to music on a roller coaster?
I've used a cellphone on a roller coaster before...It's really not that big of a deal, but I don't think that any park would be happy with you listening to music. If I were to do that, I'd be completely preoccupied with keeping my source and headphones from falling off and I really wouldn't have...- caterpillar_36
