i have heard freedb is going to shut down,i use EAC which uses freedb does anyone know anything about a replacement or any other rippers that can produce comparable rips other EAC if one has to use an alternative?

I believe you can manually change the option to point at a different Database Server in EAC, if freedb should be shut-down.
Or there's the old fashioned option of entering everything manually.

Some software that uses other databases (such as CDDB) will read the CD info and store it in the CD.ini file, where other software can retrieve it.
When J.River Media Center does not find one of my CDs' info in it's internet database, I open another ripper which reads the info from CDDB or FreeDB, then return to Media Center where the info is picked up and assimilated.
This may also work with EAC, I have not tried.

J.River Media Center 12 (uses YADB, it's own database)
Exact Audio Copy (uses FreeDB)
dbPowerAmp (uses FreeDB)
CDex (uses CDDB)
I prefer the first two as they have a "Secure Rip" function, the last two I have only used for database retrival.
btw, CDex is free
