[Review] The Martin Logan Mikros 90 -- A Bridge Too Far

While this thread is a bit "aged," I'd like to weigh in, as I just picked a pair of these up from a pawn shop, the other day. Did I know what I was buying? No. Did I spend all of $4 on them? Yes. If thought to myself, maybe this hybrid of gun range protection headband, meets Family Dollar...

LG-V10 Hi-Fi audio quality review on serious audio performance

There are a couple of work-arounds- 1. Enable developer options and toggle "use awesome player, instead of me player". This selection option will allow you to use it with most any music player and accommodate streaming audio. 2. The other option, which I literally found today, is an app in...

Sennhesier HD 203: review and impressions pre burn in.

I've got two years on mine now and they are still my favorite cans- You can drive them from a toaster and they'll sound good. They are definitely bass heavy, but not in an offensive way. Joe long have you had yours? The drivers really do evolve for the better over time? Pro tip: See if you can...

Why do people think paying a lot for headphones makes no sense but paying a lot for a phone, laptop or anything else does?

Why do people think paying a lot for headphones makes no sense but paying a lot for a phone, laptop or anything else does?

As someone who sells phones, I can assure you that this is, at best, only theoretically true. As to the original question re: headphones (which I also sell)? Headphones are very easy to use... and just as hard to market beyond aesthetics and brand-awareness. Being an educated headphone...

Headphones you regretted buying the most

Bose Around-Ears- Only purchased because I was able to snag em up in a pawn shop for cheap. I ended up flipping them on Craigslist, the same day, for a slight profit. I expected the overly warm coloration, but was amazed by the almost unapologetic muddiness of the lows. Sent from my MikG'd htc...

    HTC Evo Sound Quality

Gingerbread Evo 4G headphone out --> Fiio e7 = happy camper. My other portable setup is a long-deactivated iPhone 3G --> LOD --> e7 (and it is collecting dust). Gingerbread offers solid battery life and welcomes third-party audio tools (e.g. multi-band equalization). The Evo's 3.5mm into the e7...

    Sennheiser 448 vs 438 vs 428

If the graphs are marginally credible, it looks as thought the battle between the 428 and 448 come down to the case and the extra cable. It is a shame that the most attractive pair, in terms of frequency response (and velour pads), the 438, look like something you'd buy at Big Lots. I like the...

    Heads-Up: Audio-Tech ATH-AD700s on Amazon for $89.99

Thanks to both of you. I've been considering a pair of Grados, as well... for the sake of having owned Grados. lol Max, "Lateral" was the perfect word to keep the money in my pocket. I'm not even looking for an upgrade, but was tempted by the price. If anything, I could use an alternative to...

    Heads-Up: Audio-Tech ATH-AD700s on Amazon for $89.99

Someone talk me into buying these things. The only negative thing I've heard of them is that they are incredibly large, but I hate the one pair of ATs I already gave: the admittedly cheap ATH-M2X. To anyone who has owned the AD700s and my beloved Senn HD-595s, would these be a substantial...

Rap songs that use the sound stage

I was really surprised by many of the tracks on Eminem's recovery. There is some use of width, but depth is pretty amazing for the genre. Layers upon layers of stuff going on in some of the tracks.

Need advice on portable DAC/Amp for Denon d2000

Input impedance: 25 ohms Sensitivity: 106 dB/mW   I've never listened to the Denons, but if the above specs (found on Amazon) are correct, the E7 should drive them very nicely and the three-stage bass boost of the E7 will be dramatically noticeable on closed cans.

    Sennheiser hd598

I own two pairs of Senns (HD203 and HD555) and don't find the mids to be recessed, at all. In fact, the clean, forward mid-presentation is what hooked me on Sennheiser. Just my opinion, of course.

Headphones you regretted buying the most

I have the hd203 (the 2nd generation eh-150) and they are my absolute favorite pair of cans and, equally, the most uncomfortable I have ever owned. The clamping pressure is ridiculous. What I love about them is that they will sound enjoyable from virtually any source, with no equalization...

Concern over new FiiO E7. Anyone else having this problem?

The E7 seems to be very sensitive to hot inputs. I've found that any distortion can be remedied by slightly reducing the source's output. In other words, it doesn't create distortion as much as it amplifies it. When the input is clean, the sound from the E7 is quite impressive.
