Hey Zach, are you still developing your own ear pads? It said on the website that you were making your own ZMF ear pads which was a month or so ago. I don't see it anymore however.

They do seem super comfortable. I was thinking about getting these for my zmf but then I saw that there was going to be a line of zmf earpads so I'll be impatiently waiting for that. :D

Well I just got The Bob Dylan Mono Box Set in the mail! Overall I'm very satisfied! I can finally listen to Dylan without his harmonica piercing my ears. Now what to do now with my stereo copies. :rolleyes:

Can't wait for the new firmware update to come out. I've been enjoying my X3 since I got it except for some of the UI problems, mainly with gapless. I could do without the bright orange but otherwise it looks nice!

I used to have the k550 now I have the ZMF v1. I find the ZMF to be fuller and warmer but not overly so. The k550 is just a little bass light. Basically, it has AKG's house sound imo. The ZMF has similar bass to the k550 in terms of extension and texture except that the ZMF is noticeably fuller...

Ive had both the old version and the new one. They're both pretty much the same besides the packaging and removable cable. Sound and build was pretty much the same to me.

This may have been asked before but can you use the x3 as a dac and hook it up to an amp like the magni? If so what kind of cables would I need?

I think it's because you have the srh840 pads on your headphones rather than the hm5 pads that Zach now provides.

Did anyone take out the foam strips underneath the hm5 pads? I tried taking it out and the bass was tighter but soundstage and imaging suffered a bit. Not sure whether I'm gonna leave them in or not.

This ^. They are really efficient and don't need an amp imo. They improve a little with one. When using a computer a dac will make a bigger difference.

I removed the black felt that covers the driver and I think it improved the sound. It's a little brighter and more airy sounding with a bigger soundstage. More of the audio-technica house sound. :)
