HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Managed to snag a good condition pair recently. Really happy to finally own one. My last Hifiman headphone was a HE400 many years back. Such a shame they've stopped producing these.- PhoenixClaw

2XR definitely has more warmth than the 4S. I think that's the "safer" option to dip into the Ety sound.- PhoenixClaw

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?
This is perhaps a very specialized question. but with the whole focus on teleconferencing and whanot, I've been looking for a neckband-style wireless earphone. My main issue with TWS like galaxy buds and wf xm3 were that they are hard for "one ear" use and I risked losing them if they drop off...- PhoenixClaw

Craft Ears Reviews/Impressions Thread
If you mean IEMs my daily driver is the Hidition Viento but I do rotate with the rest in my profile. The CE6 is interesting because of their supposed "True Load" and "Rasen Bass". The former is something that is quite rare in the IEM world and the latter tells me CraftEars is pushing for...- PhoenixClaw

I have been following CraftEars (and the C6 in particular after the teasers) since I've heard the C4. Hopefully the C6 finds its way locally for demo soon.- PhoenixClaw

Totally agree. Perhaps one way to "minimize" the damage is to try and get the ER2XR. It will let you try out the fit and the ety sound on a budget.- PhoenixClaw

Drop + JVC HA-FDX1 Dual Carbon IEM...available in the US!
Which filter are you referring to? I find that stock (a la FD01) is difficult to listen to, but the blue filter seems to hit the spot.- PhoenixClaw

flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)
Among people I know, Gaebolg was one preferred by most of them. Personally I think the Balmung would be my favourite from the line-up. It was very heavy with the low-end, and thick sounding so it's definitely further from a balanced sound than say the Gaebolg but I think it was executed better...- PhoenixClaw

flinkenick's 17 Flagship IEM Shootout Thread (and general high-end portable audio discussion)
I will agree to disagree. My biggest problem is with the Homunculus. The bass sounds like it is positioned in front of the entire sound, and the tonality is weird. It was very difficult to judge the other aspects like staging when this effect was very jarring. The Thummin at least I can see some...- PhoenixClaw

For portable my go-to is the DP-S1 / DX160. But I normally use my etys at home (ER4S / ER4B) with the ifi Micro Black Label, which has been working wonderfully for me.- PhoenixClaw

Toranku's Thoughts and Reviews (and target EQ filters!)
That is exactly how I would have described it as well... I was shocked when I first heard it. I didn't know music can sound that way. The shape didn't help too and I was constantly worried it would slice my ear.- PhoenixClaw
