    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

Unfortunately SR60e is unsearchable in this thread - every post is provided in results. Regardless, what are the impressions of the new e vs i or original?

    The GRADO SR-60 Impressions Thread

The SR60 obviously has been thru a at least a few versions.  Original, i, and now e.  Looking at the original specifically, I see the oldest rev had no "bubble" protruding on the circular fixture that is basically used as the interface piece between headband/rod and driver cups. There seemed to...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I plugged in my 600ohmers into my macbook (apple lossless tunes) for the first time.  It sounds better than I thought but not nearly as effortless and involving as my "electric ave".  Harder and sterile sounding - my ears are feeling uncomfortable only after a few minutes where I can listen in...

Making own tube amp from scratch?

I built that one years ago.  Good friend of mine built another at the same time.  I'm sure others had great success but It turned me off to OTL.  It sounded really good when I luckily acquired a very rare Telefunkin 6080 but it did not have a lotta life in it and I eventually had some issues...

Making own tube amp from scratch?

I think the topic concerns scratch from a pre-defined design.

Making own tube amp from scratch?

Something to entertain is to go kit on first go.  It's pretty much guarenteed success.  Scratch has more potential of less desireable sound particularly on first effort.  The last thing I'd want to do is dissuade someone from building from scratch - but it can be frustrating and patience is a...

    VSONIC VC02 Thread

Does anyone know of a replacement cable for the VC02.  I've had mine for over 2 years and the cable now has an intermittent loss of continuity.  A little twist cures it but it's a nuisance.  Thanks.

Every part in these headphone amps makes a difference.  They are so simple, so few parts, that every part comes into play - some changes are so minor and some dramatic.  The power supply makes a huge difference too.  If you build and tweak you realize these things.

Build something that you can be proud of.  Bottlehead Crack or ECP Torpedo. And after that build something from scratch for the deepest fun and satisfaction.

You struck a chord...  Outside of DT880, I have only one headphone that I really wish to hear specifically with my amp.  Not craving in any way but looking forward to time with the HD600 at some point.  300ohm would work quite nice and they are obviously loved by many.

Quote:   Hmmm.  At the tail end of my headphone swapping mania, before I found deep satisfaction with DT880/600 (it's been 3-4 years now), was Stax SR-303.  All my amps are "home" built and for the Stax, I built a few versions of Andrea Ciuffoli's Stax amp - reference his 6SL7-6BX7...

You mentioned protection.  I never got around to the final touch but it's just me that is around it.  The transformers need to be covered - I have B+ at the exposed posts.  It's low voltage, 125V, but it still hurts as we all know.

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I posted this on the DIY forum a few days ago.  My amp is specific to high impedance HP's - DT880 is the 600ohm version. Took me years to get to this point - trading lots of HP's - until I hit this combo - that was 3 or 4 years ago and I have not looked back since.  Sorry not necessarily...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I have been using, solely using, 600ohm DT880's for 3 or 4 years now - after years of searching and swapping before, the 600ohm 880's were the first headphone that satisfied my ears and were in my budget.  Knowing that I would never splurge on Audeze, I investigated a potential spare pair of...

    Post pics of your builds....

Something I have been listening to for at least a few years - my only rig and never an urge to change (after years of change up to this combo).  I told myself to post after I built transformer covers that match the base but I've never got around to it - hence the delay in post.  The circuit is...

    Recommendations on Fluke DMM?

I have the 79 - built many amps with it - along with a 23.  I think the 179 is the successor of the 79.  I bought the 79 on ebay for no more than $40 - built very well - I see no point in new with Fluke.  I would also not recommend a meter without capacitance so stay away from something like a 23.

    Alas poor Radio Shack

Off topic but the first catalog was spectacular - 1939.  http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1939_small/ BTW, the 50 was $1.35 (had to be ST).  According to an inflation calculator that amounts to $23 today.
