Review by 'coldfish' on item 'HIDIZS MS3'

Intro Hidizs recently reduced the price of the MS3 by a whopping 30%! It is already a very competent performer at it’s original retail price so getting this is really a no brainer. But hey, I digress, this is not a place for sales pitch, then again, read my review and you will know what I meant...

Review by 'coldfish' on item 'CVJ KE-S'

This is my first iem review and for sure it is wildly unpolished, thus, I would love to hear from you on how I can improve on my writings and analysis. DISCLAIMER I would like to thank CVJ for providing this review unit but they have not thrown in any terms and conditions so the opinions...

Reply to review by 'coldfish' on item 'Audiocular TP20 Pro and TP30 Pro'

Both dongles are from EPZ. Audiocular simply slap it's own logo on the casing and resell it. Another company YongSe is also selling the TP30 under their own brand.

Chord Electronics ☆ Poly ☆ (wireless & microSD module for Mojo) ☆★►USEFUL INFO on 1st PAGE!!◄★☆

I hate to dispel your assumption that people like me who don't post on this forums are 'more or less' happy with my Poly/Mojo. Mojo yes, but Poly a sound NO! I don't post here often and in fact probably once. And this thread is about the Poly. While I have no way to proof whether their firmware...

Chord Electronics ☆ Poly ☆ (wireless & microSD module for Mojo) ☆★►USEFUL INFO on 1st PAGE!!◄★☆

Both my wife's and my Polys finally got their updates yesterday and they finally worked. Note the past tense, worked. That's right they worked flawlessly last night. Was so happy and was enjoying myself thoroughly before finally succumbing to sleep bug. Anxiously turned on my unit this morning...

Cayin i5 Lossless Android DAP with AKM4490 DAC supporting 32/384 PCM + 64/128 DSD

It may be subtle at first but the differences become more and more apparent over time especially with the right songs. I too didn't feel the difference at first and thought its all gimmick to use filters but realize it can even change the sound signature of the player. So slow roll-off works...

Andy might have run out of steam (you did look tired when I met you) yet you solved my long standing issues with my player. Very glad I met you at Cayin booth in person, fantastic personality and am grateful for helping me despite having a long day. Wish you have a great stay in Singapore!

    Bad Bad local support

I really envy you guys able to complain about how Tidal music stutters because I can't even get any third party app running!   They all hang on startup. Tried clearing all sorts of cache, tried updating the firmware several times. Tried clearing the entire files and folders from the device and...

Cayin i5 Lossless Android DAP with AKM4490 DAC supporting 32/384 PCM + 64/128 DSD

I wouldn't go that far to describe M1's sound signature thin. Soft maybe, bright perhaps. While the i5 has copious and tight bass, the default sound profile does not encourage prolonged listening. Changing it to the 3rd option (long delay I think) helps.   I used to be particular with details...

Yes same issue. Its not an android player although the OS is Linux based.

Shanling M1: An iPod Nano Competitor / DAP || USB DAC || USB Transport || Bluetooth 4.0 + aptX || DSD

I disagree. Thin sounding is neither flat nor neutral. And this, the M1, is not. It has pronounced high treble, the mid sits slightly above neutral and a prominent lower bass. The mid highs and mid lows have been pushed back making it sounding less fatiguing but that's the W shape I am...

Cayin i5 Lossless Android DAP with AKM4490 DAC supporting 32/384 PCM + 64/128 DSD

Its true that badly recorded music sound just... bad. There's just no point flogging a dead horse. But well recorded pieces do sound inferior on compressed formats. YMMV but I do hear the differences on all my gears.   When ripping a CD recording into both WAV and FLAC formats in 16/44, the...

Shanling M1: An iPod Nano Competitor / DAP || USB DAC || USB Transport || Bluetooth 4.0 + aptX || DSD

Bright yes. But by no means thin. Perhaps it is because the player has a W shaped sound quality that may give the impression of thin sounding. The resulting sound is highly addictive which you'd be tempted to raise the volume as it sound even better when played loud.   But such sound signature...

Cayin i5 Lossless Android DAP with AKM4490 DAC supporting 32/384 PCM + 64/128 DSD

Means the player is unforgiving to lower quality music, especially compressed ones. Side to side comparison is clear that they just don't sound as dynamic, have smaller soundstage and the extremes generally don't sound extended. In a nutshell, it's boring.   FLAC is highly recommended if you...

This is a warm sounding players. Sandisk Sansa was nice for it's time but you'll find M1, though bigger and heavier, a world of difference. In fact I've just thrown away my Sansa which I found it while doing spring cleaning. Too bad didn't take a picture of it.

Zippy is the impression. It's arranged in alphabetical orders but you can't pick which alphabet to skip to. However, there's a directory under My Music in the main screen which allows you to perform quick access to My Favourites, Albums, Artists, Genre and Playlists.

One of my wife's was whether there's any selection available for the font size. The other nag point is the test of patience if the album I pick is at the bottom of the directory.   Fortunately, the wife (it was bought for her) likes the sound signature very much while she found the Cayin i5...

Fast on my 200GB Sandisk Ultra too. However, the player doesn't appear to like odd formats. One of the albums is on 24bit 44Khz Flac and it simply shows 'No Files Found'.

There's a flap that folds to the back and then below to be fastened with a clip. The gap created allows the strap to pass through.

I suppose it depends on the headphones/earphones as I realized that the UERR does indeed smooths out the treble a little. I did notice this when one of my favourite songs did not show up any clippings. Pulled out the GR07 bass edition which has profound V shaped sound signature and did...

It looked well made but there were already some...
