Not really. My ipod and clip+ drive it fine. Lows can get distorted a bit when eq'd up and a little amplification helps to clear that up. Other than that, if you run a flat eq, any DAP will power it fine.

i used comply foam tips with them...check those out

A lot of people here have good things to say about Klipsch Image S4. I've never tried them personally but they have a ton of good reviews on head fi.

What don't y'all like about the MC5s? I was pretty happy with them. They sound pretty good for their price, IMO.
