The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
They aren't the most comfortable headphones out there, but they manage, the pain isn't that really that bad, and my ears are really sensitive to headphones. I'd say for the price it's a good fit. Did you try the book method? If not, put some books between the cups so that they are spread more...- aidenn

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
I think that's what I'm trying to say - analytic waveform representation (of which there's more in X1s, even though they're very fun and colorful) versus more lively and fun (and perhaps realistic/lifelike) sound of cans like these. I'm not an expert by any means, my sound-conscious history...- aidenn

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
Onboard soundcards are awful, I tried connecting my X1 to a Realtek once, it really falls flat then. Even my phone (Moto G) sounds better than Realteks, bleh. Having said that, I didn't hear S400s either, but if the vocals are the same as with these, then X1s are better, more detailed...- aidenn

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
I'm not really a basshead as well, I just like that cinema-type rumbling, experimental music and sometimes I crave guilty pleasures in the form of simple pop/hip hop beats, but X1, while very competent in the bass department, didn't rumble enough in a few cases. Anyway, my amp is my Essence...- aidenn

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
Yeah, I didn't read that bit I suppose. I expected a solid bass kicker (I'm a closeted basshead sometimes, so I decided to try these) with average-to-competent mids and highs and got much more than that. I'm really positively surprised how flexible these are, I'm afraid they might get into a...- aidenn

The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!
Just bought these. I've been listening to them for about 5 hours with my Essence STX and sligthly V'd the signature with EQ. The range is actually quite surprising, both in capability to deliver even deeper bass (and sub-bass) than without EQ and in capability to deliver very crisp and airy...- aidenn

Fischer Audio DBA-02 left/right imbalance. Filter problems?
Hi. I was just looking for the answer to that, didn't find one, so I just tried to do it by force. Dunno if you did it yet, but the short answer is - yes, they are easily removable, just put a needle in the nozzle and pull the filter out by its metal casing, it protrudes a bit, look for the...- aidenn

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
Yeah, please do a blind test, since you have two cables. If the cable is really faulty (and that's what it'd be - faulty) then we'll all need to replace it. I'm not a believer in cable magic too, I need proof before I succumb and buy a cable, even a cheap one. :)- aidenn

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
Quote: They're still not burned-in and my amp isn't ideal (10 ohms output impedance), so I guess that will change. However even brand new and not ideally amped they're still extremely satisfying to listen to. What I like the best is that no matter what I throw at them they do it more than...- aidenn

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
Mine just arrived. They're beautiful! And sooo comfy... not exactly lightweight, but still they sit very comfortably on my head and don't press too hard or anything. They're slightly warm, but mostly natural, not exactly for bassheads - a bit like Fischer Audio FA-004 in that regard. They...- aidenn

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
Quote: I played the first song on youtube on FA-004 (which is a warm headphone with no sibilance problems otherwise), it sounds like the album was mastered this way, there's a lot of sibilant consonants and I hear them very well. Any detailed headphone with clear highs will make it worse...- aidenn

Essence STX + Grado SR80i (low impedance headphones in general)
Thank you very much. I suppose I'll just try it without the E5. And the reason I thought of E5 is that it's dirt cheap and I'm not looking for anything that amps better, I just thought that having lower impedance would give me more (due to the "1/8" rule) than is taken by having another device...- aidenn

Essence STX + Grado SR80i (low impedance headphones in general)
Hello, I have an Essence STX which has output impedance of ~10 ohms, I'm thinking about buying a pair of Grado SR80is, which are 32-ohm. Will they perform well or should I also buy a low impedance amp? I've been thinking about FiiO E5. If I buy it, can I just plug it in the STX's...- aidenn

Review! Fischer Audio's FA-004
Thanks, I already read about the Shure pads, I just thought that in the meantime I'd mod it myself somehow. Thanks for the Blu Tack info, I didn't even know that something like that existed. A while back I though about filling them with foam to improve soundstage, is it a much worse idea than...- aidenn

Review! Fischer Audio's FA-004
Hello, I removed the foam after using the headphones for half a year and the difference is big. It kinda doesn't change the signature, but on the other side it kinda does. It's still warm, but the position on the spectrum moved much more closer to neutral. Now the overall sound is...- aidenn

IEMs with similar sound signature to FA-004
Hello, First, I have to stress that I won't be buying any new IEMs soon, I just want to check what I should be observing in the future if I wanted to make a purchase. Thus, I have no budget limis, if it's really great - I'll set money aside gradually, there's no hurry. Well, maybe let's...- aidenn

So, I bought my first IEMs (DBA-02)... (a couple of questions)
Thanks, I think I got it perfect now. I also pushed the right tip a bit more than the left, since it's quieter (I guess that's because my ear canals aren't identical) and now I don't have to touch the balance in the player. Yay. This is much, much better than the stock tips. I'm still not...- aidenn

So, I bought my first IEMs (DBA-02)... (a couple of questions)
Ok, bumping time. Finally, I bought Shure olives. They're extremely comfy and they did reduce the highs, however they also muffled the sound a bit. I read about trimming the tips, so... where do I trim them? in line with their plastic core? And another thing - how deep should I push them...- aidenn

So, I bought my first IEMs (DBA-02)... (a couple of questions)
Yeah, it took a while, but after a couple of tries with them falling out (and finally understanding that they're meant to go over the ear - at first I thought: "what morons, printing L and R upside down") I got it airtight. Bass is really kicking. :) And that's exactly what I do - wrap...- aidenn

So, I bought my first IEMs (DBA-02)... (a couple of questions)
Maybe I should start with a little background... (TL; DR below) I've been a long time anti-anything-in-the-ear guy. I have very sensitive earlobes and avoided the topic like fire. I read for a long time that IEMs are THE portable phones, but I was always afraid that I'll shell out more money...- aidenn

PX-100 owner looking for new portables.
Ok guys, time for a report. I've been listening to music using the v-JAYS for the past few hours. Here's a few impressions from a guy who knows only how the PX-100 sound in the realm of semi-nice headphones: The very first impression: it's pretty similar to PX-100, but with better...- aidenn

PX-100 owner looking for new portables.
Thanks guys, that was extremely helpful. I'm still going to get the v-JAYS, however now I have a theoretical groundwork and a bit of brand knowledge. Depending on what I think about the v-JAYS mids and highs I might go in a different direction next time. And about the AKGs, maye I'll...- aidenn

PX-100 owner looking for new portables.
Aww, it's closed on Saturdays, and on Weekdays it's only open when I'm working. No checking out the Grado sound for me. Ok, back to square one. PX-100-II and v-JAYS. I think I'll get the v-JAYS in the end, however I'd like some feedback on the AKGs (both K420 and K450) and why...- aidenn
