Yamaha EPH-100
After i read this thread & becoming aware of the aquatic issues of the eph-100, i ordered another pair. (they arrived ok in the Lowlands, thnx Audioaffair -) And indeed, the new set behaves exactly the same (as expected). Very "neutral" sound, good separation etc. and.. after listening for 1...- Pennypacker

Senn HD598 vs DT770 for gaming/music. Need help deciding.
I wouldn't worry too much about the impedance/ability to drive. On my card, there are 3 gain settings: <64 ohm, 64-300ohm, 300-600ohm. My 300ohm headphone can be easily driven at the lowest gain. You then have a ..slightly.. thinner sound, but still very good (bass also). But..i am not a...- Pennypacker

Is Sansa Clip + really that good?!
In search of a set of smaller phones for the clip+, i gave it another try & i bought a pair of sennh. cx870 iem(s). (saw them on a discount somewhere, cheap). Although i think the hd595 still sound significantly better, the cx870 are rather good/good enough, especially after a few hours "burn...- Pennypacker

Is Sansa Clip + really that good?!
Yes, you are right. I remember, turning the bass a bit up, and noticed the treble muffling. One would expect however, that such an issue would be resolved by a firmware update..(a long time ago! =).- Pennypacker

Thanks for the tip! Yes i noticed that, for some reason, turning on the (flat) eq, the sound gets muffled. I will try it out.- Pennypacker

Is Sansa Clip + really that good?!
Just got the clip+. Stock firmware. (normal i listen to asus st/hd600, so i guess i am used to a reasonable "decent" sound, not uber-fi, but no crap either). At first i used the stock earplugs. No..no..just awfull (crap ie's). Then i bought sennh. cx281 ie's. ...- Pennypacker

Jie Extreme Player 2.7.2 released
Yes..yes.. a very good player..i hear a positive difference. Highs are a little (but significant) more detailed, smooth, airy, have good separation. Bass is a little less strong in volume (which i like), so i do not need an eq anymore, with ST/hd600 opamp at max gain setting. Don't get me...- Pennypacker

Pkshan's Foobar 2000 Project
Hello headfiers, Just want to give my opinion about the "different flavours" of foobar. Using stock foobar2000 with kernel streaming as my "gold standard" for years. (Wasapi is fine, i find it somewhat "dry" sounding. Ds has a little less crisp highs/detail, but a "softer/smoother" sound...- Pennypacker

Asus Xonar STX/ST and headphones: A basic guide
Yes Genclaymore, It could be (i have only experience with fedora & gentoo, so im not sure about suse) that suse uses pulse-audio, or some other layer (there are 2 or 3 i believe) on top of alsa. But: the basis for linuxsound on every distro is alsa (oss still works if you want, but this is...- Pennypacker

Sennheiser HD595 Impressions Thread
Heya 595 fans =) In my opinion the 595's are very good. Sometimes a bit underrated maybe.(have read them beig recommended as "only good for TV headphones") haha. With a decent source a nice, upfront sound. Ik like them especilally with rock/guitars, but other genres sound good too.My...- Pennypacker

Asus Xonar STX/ST and headphones: A basic guide
Addendum: after some further listening i must put some nuance my previous post.. Don't know why, mb i'm crazy, but pure soundquality-wise, i'm getting the impression that the above dmix-setup lacks a bit in the high frequencies after all =(. i can't explain this. I must have been in a positive...- Pennypacker

Asus Xonar STX/ST and headphones: A basic guide
Hello people, A small tip for the linux users who want good sound from the asus soundcards (D2(X)/ST(X). Since recent kernels, there is finally support for the 3 power levels for the headphone amplifier. Ahh linux..so inconvenient..how do i set it up right for 44100 cards? You just have to have...- Pennypacker
