Has anyone tried the Audio Technica ATH-M40x?

I have not heard the SE215.  I'd say the SRH440 was just a touch more articulate in the treble than the M40x, with the M40x bass boost being the largest difference between the two pairs.  Again, they sounded very similar to my ears.

Having (and using?) more than one pair of nice cans

I typically have a different pair for a different use.  So, I'll have a pair that I leave plugged into my amp at my computer for general listening and doing stuff on the computer, then a closed pair for playing guitar so I don't have to use a guitar amp and wake up the neighbors, earbuds/iems...

Has anyone tried the Audio Technica ATH-M40x?

I got to try out the entire AT X-series recently.  The M40x's are definitely not a bad pair of headphones for their price.  They do sound very similar to the SRH440s.  Personally, I prefer the Shure voicing, but that's my personal preference, and it depends on what you're looking for in a...

Albums That Make You Feel Blue...

The Arcade Fire - Neon Bible also, this isn't the whole album, but In My Life by The Beatles is a tough song to listen to for me. Reminds me of when I was a kid.

    phono preamp planning

Hello everyone, I just wanted to see what everyone thinks and get some more ideas here. I am hoping to have a setup to listen to vinyl records with headphones only. The current plan is to run my turntable into a phono preamp (I'm considering the VSPS from RJM audio) and run that into a...

For those that think subscription based music may not be so bad

eMusic is the only of these kind of services I have even considered. DRM-free. I don't remember the rates, but it came out to around 40 or 50 cents per song. Quantity over quality any way you look at it.

The Who's halftime show was pretty good for a geriatric band.

    Disappointing New Releases

the new No Age ep was a disappointment for the one time i've listened to it so far. Especially since it's only four songs, one of which was released on Subpop's website for free and happens to be the best song on the ep.

    Albums with exceptional drumming?

People have mentioned Bill Bruford and other progressive rock drummers, but I'd add Michael Giles of King Crimson. I've been listening to Court of the Crimson King repeatedly this week. His drumming sounds amazing and adds so much to the songs. Particularly 21st Century Schizoid man.

Overlooked Gems in an Artists catalog

I'd say Stereolab - Cobra and Phases Group Play Voltage in the Milky Night, although this is possibly not really overlooked by Stereolab fans, just the critics. Regardless, it's a solid album.
