Replacement recommendation for my iPod 5.5G
So my beloved ipod video, with rockbox and SD card mod finally stopped working last night. Made a weird squelch noise through the headphones and has been silent ever since. Oh well, it had a good run.. 3 moves, 2 hemispheres. What portable player should I be looking for that plays FLAC files...- mikebeauchamp

The Pono Player Impressions Thread
Seems like the Pono Player completely ignores the "Album Artist" tag unfortunately. It's already hard enough to scroll through a collection on that touchy tiny screen, having all of my compilation albums listed by their individual artist isn't helping any. Anyone know where to submit bugs...- mikebeauchamp

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player
I have the latest firmware and I'm wondering if anyone has gotten their Pono Player to respect the "Album Artist" tag and show compilation albums correctly? Currently the Album View shows everything grouped by Song Artist. I saw in some previous comments that people were doing a little...- mikebeauchamp

Ipod 5.5g 80GB - How do I increase the storage?
Hey guys, I know there's a billion-page thread on SSD mods for the iPod. But I wanted to ask, what's the most stable way to upgrade the storage on this beast to at least 256GB? Specific part numbers if possible. I use rockbox and I don't want to be fussing around with software and getting...- mikebeauchamp

What's inside the Pono Player
I took apart my Pono Player today to check out what's inside. http://mikebeauchamp.com/2014/12/pono-player-teardown/ It uses an ESS ES9018K2M 32-bit Sabre reference DAC and the headphone amp section seems to be mostly discrete transistors and two large 1000uF capacitors. Nice board...- mikebeauchamp

Sennheiser HD555 and HD595 internal comparison shots
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I've created a little page for this "mod" (http://mikebeauchamp.com/misc/sennheiser-hd-555-to-hd-595-mod/) so it doesn't get lost on the internets. Thanks for posting that shot of the replacement driver MCC, that pretty much makes it "case closed" for...- mikebeauchamp

Sennheiser HD555 and HD595 internal comparison shots
Last night I took the foam out of one side only and swapped the headphones around on my head while listening to some music outputted as mono (thanks for that option rockbox). I actually noticed that removing the foam slightly decreases the treble, which I initially thought was bad (considering...- mikebeauchamp

Sennheiser HD555 and HD595 internal comparison shots
Thanks to ivant for supplying pictures of the insides of his HD595's in my previous thread (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/hd5...e-mods-403497/). Here are some comparison images between the insides of my HD555's and ivant's HD595's. QQQ said that the HD555 and HD595 share the same...- mikebeauchamp

HD555 internals. Anyone want to help compare to HD595 (For future Mods)

Thanks for posting the internal shots of the HD595. On first inspection, they look exactly the same. The only difference I can see is that my HD555's have the foam piece glued onto the inside of the back vents. To answer someone else's question... the back of the driver doesn't actually come...- mikebeauchamp

So I picked up a used pair of Sennheiser HD555's that had a small crack in the plastic. I took them apart to repair the crack with some CA glue. Since I had the HD555's open, I figure I'd snap some pictures.. I'm hoping someone out there will open up a pair of HD595's so we can ACTUALLY see...- mikebeauchamp
