Passive Volume Control w/ USB DAC
I'm moving from a sound card to a dedicated USB DAC. The DAC has no volume control and I'm using a pair of M-Audio BX5a Deluxe monitors. Controlling volume from Windows is a pain and adjusting the volume at the back of each is worse. I was considering a USB knob like the PowerMate one when I...- Kurotetsu

Tone Matrix
Tone Matrix An addictive little program that, according to its creator: "Is a simple sinewave synthesizer triggered by an ordinary 16-step sequencer. Each triggered step causes a force on the underlaying wave-map, which makes it more cute. Based on the AudioTool engine thus no sources...- Kurotetsu

USB Volume Control
A long time friend of mine is finally going to be upgrading his audio experience a little. He currently uses a fairly old (hardware-wise) Pentium 4 Dell machine, and up until now has been listening from a pair of dinky little Dell speakers being fed by the onboard audio. He managed to grab a...- Kurotetsu

Alternative Padding for ATH-AD700 and KSC-75
I'm trying to find information on alternative padding for the two headphones in the topic. I know some threads regarding the subject exist but I can't seem to find them Googling. I just recently got the AD700s while they sound awesome, they put pressure on my neck whenever I wear them. I was...- Kurotetsu

Dedicated Head+Preamp vs. Compass
Finally put my audio upgrade plan into motion by ordering the ATH-AD700 headphones yesterday. My question today has to do with my next step. Right now I use the Zero has my DAC, headphone amp and preamp. From lurking the forums, I've read alot people getting positive results from getting...- Kurotetsu

Best Earbuds for....Sleeping?
Here I am again, not long after the Gaming thread, with another rather non-standard question. Due to certain circumstances (a roommate who watches TV until ungodly hours of the night and who mumbles to himself in his sleep on top of that), I've taken to listening to music while sleeping in...- Kurotetsu

Best IEMs or Earphones for Gaming?
This strikes me as being a somewhat juvenile question, but I'll ask anyway... Right now, I have a JVC HA-RX900 that I use for gaming, but the pressure it puts on my temples is very annoying and prevents me from enjoying extended sessions. For that reason, I use it only for gaming, and use the...- Kurotetsu

Foorbar Custom View that filters by File Type?
As stated on the topic, I was wondering if it were possible to create a custom filter that sorted by file type. I currently use the 'By Folder Structure' view, which has been good so far, but its sorts by alphabetical order. Would I like is a view that sorts like the Type folder column in...- Kurotetsu

Long Term Upgrade Plan
I wasn't sure where the best place to post this would be, but since I use my PC as my primary audio source, I figured here would be the best. These are the purchases I'm planning on making over the scope of 1 year to improve and hopefully finalize my audio. I just wanted to get some opinions on...- Kurotetsu

"What Headphones Are You Wearing?" Advert
I came upon this image while cruising around an anime/manga image board. It was so incredibly cute and apt that I just had to post it here for everyone to see! (Click the thumbnail to see it full size) No love for my headphones though... I think each pic was a larger individual...- Kurotetsu

Optical --> Coaxial Conversion. Any noticeable signal loss?
Right now I'm running a TOSlink optical cable from my sound card to my DAC. However, the connection at both ends feels very flimsy to me and I'd like something more secure (I'd also like to use the TOSlink port for a console). Switching to coaxial input would solve this I think, but I'm worried...- Kurotetsu

Creative ASIO Exclusivity Issue
I have an issue with Creative ASIO that I can't seem to fix. When I use ASIO4All w/ Foobar2000, when music is playing ASIO4All retains exclusive use of the default playback device. Any other audio playing in the background is muted, this includes standard Windows sounds. When music is paused...- Kurotetsu

Active vs. Passive [or] How to Interpret Amplifier Specs?
So tomorrow (well, today technically), I'll be stopping by Guitar Center to look at powered monitors. I'm using a pair of passives + amp right now, but I'm considering moving to powered to make things a little simpler. Now, I know the main difference between an active and a passive monitor...- Kurotetsu

T-Amp + Zero DAC
Come Christmas I wanted to upgrade my sound system a little, which has been very good to me so far. I realize that's still a very long ways off, but I thought I'd ask now so I could at least get an early start in saving up. I currently use: X-Fi Titanium --> Sonic Impact T-Amp Gen. 2 --> 2...- Kurotetsu
