Since you can't really apply EQ to straight DSD data, you would have to, in realtime, convert DSD to PCM, apply EQ and then send the new PCM data to the DAC or even convert it back to DSD.  Seems like a lot of CPU work for something so trivial.  Does anyone know how it works in the real world...

Does it really matter?  The way I see it, if you lower the levels on a digital signal before it gets sent to a DAC its as if it were done during mastering so unless you're playing back really really loudly it shouldn't really make any difference whether you control volume at the source...

I was just thinking that a powered USB hub would provide power to any attached DACs via its own DC power instead of the power from the computer USB port.  That still leaves the matter of how clean the hub's own AC-DC circuitry compares to that of the computer.

Couldn't a lot of timing issues be solved with a packet based audio protocol instead of more expensive components with tighter tolerances?  Isn't that the engineering way?   By packet based I mean with send and receive buffers that can mitigate any error correction hiccups on poor quality data...

I want to connect the line out of a source to 2 destinations.  Will I be fine with a simple splitter?  The destination will be 2 high end cassette decks from the mid 90s.  Probably a Denon and a Pioneer.  Not sure about the source yet but its probably going to be a USB DAC.
