BWD or I2S internally, according to the product.

...correction based on review of some very old schematics, recall of tech memories of 40 years ago, and docs of the first pre Theta D/A converters.. I2S is defined as a three wire system. Bit clock, Word clock, and Data. Sounds like BWD, no?? There is one major difference between I2S and BWD...

It isn't the I2S asstivity anywhere near as much than the Delta Sigma asstivity. It just happens that all ds DACs that I have seen have I2S. This is so any moron can design with them.

You haven't seen it because it is non-standard, closed loop, non-universal, connection method between digital sources which are traits shared with I2S. It just happens to be a much better sounding protocol than I2S, which seems to be a jholy grail for those who have no experience with BWD.

...that you are like some idiot who dared to modify my perfect gear. None of my gear is perfect, but it is quite competitive and robust, which an I2S interface is not, for many users. The only thing is that you are on your own because you ventured into a territory that none of my people at...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Such judgement before the fact may imply you do not follow my thread. I still struggle with the notion that even though God frequently visits me to tell me how to build perfect D/A converters - gasp, there are people who do not like them. Jason has taken away all of my sharp objects, and I am...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

I have been requested I write a bit about I2S – it seemed like a good topic about which I have never written. Briefly, the common methods of connectivity, in order of introduction, are first S/PDIF and AES/EBU. These are bi-phase modulated connection protocols, similar except for balanced...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

A few musings on building products, Yggdrasil, I2S (in no particular order):   Let me begin by opining that in my last 40 years or so of being involved in audio, that audiophiles are an odd subset of the human race. Well above average intelligence, yup. Sane, well............... So that speaks...

...Gen V USB killer, but more for us to have a better low-cost solution. Most DACs which would glue to common USB solutions (XMOS, Cmedia, etc.) are I2S Sigma Delta types, which exhibit relatively high levels of sonic asstivity. Since we have a DSP processor in our entire upgardable line, we can...

...This is the direct connection of digital clocks and data, which has been around since even before S/PDIF, but more recently come to be known as I2S, as if that is the only direct transfer protocol. I2S complicates the transfer protocol with a one bit delay of the word clock; I cannot help but...

...boxes. The first was digital input selection, formatting, and routing circuits. This where the digital input signal gets picked, converted to I2S or BWD or whatever the engine requires, and de-jittered in a more sophisticated design. To properly execute this, an engineer should be very...
