Earbuds Round-Up
They’re a very interesting set. I just got a brief listen in before my current trip (took the Kings with me), but the Loki has a unique sound. I did find that they needed a bit more power than my normal Dongle DAC offers in 3.5mm, however. Looking forward to listening to them again when I get back.- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
The 58X are more versatile in that you don’t NEED an amp to get good sound out of them. They’re a bit more balanced and less veiled. I think the way they’re presented makes the mids stand out more on the 6XX, whether one prefers that or not is subjective. The Modi 2 would be used as a DAC, so...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Audiophile grade headphones don’t jump off the shelves. Being able to sell the 6XX (an end of life product at this point) in massive quantities made them big money and they didn’t have to ship to different distributors or do anything complicated in the transaction. One buyer, one place to ship...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Judging from the reviews on Massdrop, I think more people will prefer the 58X. I think the build quality concerns are a big factor to consider, too. I would get both if not for the QC concerns. Edit: I was referring to Hifiman QC issues, I was unclear, sorry.- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Amazon just does what every good business should do, utilizing bulk purchases to lower cost of products. That's Massdrop's exact business model, only they make people pay way ahead of time to minimize their risk. As I stated before, the best way for businesses to work is to sell products...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Selling thousands at once and getting them in the hands of owners right away is actually a better situation for Sennheiser. It funds their R&D and builds word of mouth advertising. Basically, the Kickstarter route. The problem is they don’t want to alienate their customers who paid the higher...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Typically, when a product is produced, it’s sold to many businesses in small amounts, then those businesses mark it up a considerable amount. They have to make a fair share of product to bother stocking it and they wouldn’t sell Sennheiser headphones in enough quantity to keep the profit margin...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion and preferences for sound quality/presentation. The issue we see sometimes is that people who are looking to purchase one or the other get confused by which product is better instead of realizing that two headphones can be of similar quality but...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
There are things the HD650 does better, no doubt, but unless you like that presentation...slightly veiled treble, weaker bass, and mid-centric sound... it's not necessarily a better headphone. When we review headphones we have to make sure and look at it on a basis of neutrality because...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
I would agree with you. The sound quality for this price is stupid good and I don't think they give up a whole lot to even much more expensive headphones. My comments about fit/finish/design, and likely those of many others, were in response to a few who were critical of the appearance. They...- cujobob

The HD6XX is a colored headphone by it’s very nature, the 58X is more neutral.- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
You lose high frequency hearing as you age, but those frequencies are not exactly common in modern music, so I don’t believe age is a major factor in reviews. Music type is an issue because some music is poorly made as its expected to be on the radio in a car or somewhere a person doesn’t have...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
Regarding build quality, they’re fine. Mine came with a couple of minor scratches on them which I don’t mind because they’re not something you’d notice without being up close. They seem to be built well enough that I won’t have to baby them in any way. The box they came in probably could have...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
There are a number of reasons for varying opinions: break in vs lack of break in, adjusting the listener to the sound as presented, different equipment (not so much the level of quality, but some equipment colors the sound or doesn’t power it properly and that isn’t the fault of a headphone)...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
There aren’t really opposing views, what you’re seeing is that some people prefer the midrange bloom of the HD650 and were hoping this would be an improvement on that platform. People can prefer a particular sound signature, but that doesn’t mean it’s superior. Someone mentioned that the...- cujobob

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
With some/many products, the first so many produced are QC’d more closely until they can verify the consistency and accuracy of product quality before moving to larger production or distribution. Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements
An American company created a group buy business which in turn provides guaranteed business to Sennheiser in a large quantity. If you organized a group buy of tens of thousands of the product, you could probably get Sennheiser to do the same for you. This isn’t anyone’s fault and there’s no...- cujobob
