BLIND TEST: 128kbps mp3 vs Lossless
I chose B, but the recording isn't of the right quality to really be able to hear a difference. If you did this on purpose to reflect more mainstream music tastes, I completely understand, but I would have chosen a good classical or jazz album for a test comparing lossless and lossy. This song...- nbohaychuk

Pictures of Your Portable Rig (part XVI)
I've been experimenting with manual mode iso and white balance on my Canon PowerShot SX210 IS. Let me know what you think of the pictures . Rockboxed iPod Classic 7th Generation > OFC 24 AWG LOD by Chris_Himself & Ted > ALO The National > DT 1350. I have to say that I was actually...- nbohaychuk

Professional USB Sound Card /w Balanced Mains and Good Headphone Amp?
I've been looking at interfaced like the Steinberg 24/192 2-In/2-Out USB 2.0 Audio Interface, but I'm not sure how good the DAC and headphone amp in it is. It seems like professional equipment focuses more on the mains out than headphone out for monitoring. I'm looking for balanced mains out...- nbohaychuk

Is there a character limit on user profiles?
After many attempts of the exact same entries, I finally got an error explaining that my "About Me" can't exceed 100 characters. After shortening my "About Me", I was able to save without a problem. I've been using Google Chrome 26.0.1410.4 m and Internet Explorer 10.0.9200.16521 on...- nbohaychuk

Is there a character limit on user profiles?
I've also been having problems updating my profile, but I'm no where near the character limit. I've tried updating my profile in both Chrome and Internet Explorer and no matter what I do, after I hit save I can wait hours and I still get the "Please wait..." message and nothing happens. All I...- nbohaychuk

Buying portable or in-ear headphones? Seeking guidance? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask for advice HERE!
I am just going to ask this question here because I am kind of lost. I have ALO's The National paired with my iPod Classic and I have been comparing the DT 1356 and HD25-1 II. I listen to almost exclusively jazz and classical and the DT 1350 seems to be better for these genres. I've read that...- nbohaychuk

Portable Headphone Amp Upgrade for iPod Classic
Quote: I was interested in that amp as well, but I like the price of The National, and I wanted the sound signature people have been describing it as having. I guess that's kind of also like me. I do like jazz and classical, but more than anything, the sound technicians...- nbohaychuk

Portable Headphone Amp Upgrade for iPod Classic
I just realized how out of date this thread is which is funny since it's my own. Portable: iPod Classic > Custom 24AWG OFC Chris_Himself/Ted LOD > ALO The National > ATH-M35 (almost exclusively) or R-50. I love this setup with the ATH-M35, but I need to upgrade my headphones and I'll...- nbohaychuk

Portable Headphone Amp Upgrade for iPod Classic
I received "The National" today. I'll post a better and more detailed update in the next few days. So far, I've noticed the highs aren't deafening anymore on the R-50. The ATH-M35 seems to have a better soundstage and possibly better mids.- nbohaychuk

Recommendations for Closed back over the ear cans for <100
If you can't get the ATH-M50 on sale, the ATH-M30/ATH-M35 are great and will probably benefit nicely from the e6. My ATH-M35 amped with E11 vs. unamped is what I would consider a night and day difference.- nbohaychuk

Quote: Thanks for the response, but I decided to order The National and it should be here in a few days :). I did some more research and thought about it a lot and I'll probably get the DT 1350 soon. I'm just really wondering how the Momentum does with amping since it's impedance is so low...- nbohaychuk

Buying portable or in-ear headphones? Seeking guidance? DON'T START A NEW THREAD. Ask for advice HERE!
I have experimented with the EQ on my Rockboxed iPod Classic and I think I took 16000Hz down to around -15dB and 8000Hz to around -10dB. The EQ got rid of most of the harshness, but took a bit away from the sound quality, I just couldn't find the perfect balance without affecting sound quality...- nbohaychuk

Quote: I've had the R-50 for around 3 months now and I haven't had any problems with the cable. I don't know how other people don't hear this on the R-50, but what drives me insane is how harsh the upper mids and highs are. Female voices and trumpets (in jazz) sound horrible on them.- nbohaychuk

Cheap Headphones :Good with Amp
Sony MDR-XB500. I don't own them, and I don't think they'll respond well to amping, but they seem popular among people that like bass. I guess you're new here, but Beats by Dre are known as THE worst brand/product line especially for the price by all users on Head-Fi (if anyone objects, I...- nbohaychuk

Cheap Headphones :Good with Amp
ATH-M35/ATH-M30 in that price range. I own the ATH-M35 and they benefit from amping, but they might not have enough bass for you.- nbohaychuk

Audio Technica ATH-M30 vs ATH-M50?
I see this is an old thread, but here is my review & comparison. http://www.head-fi.org/t/652324/audio-technica-ath-m35-review Basically, I'd consider the M30/35 amazing for the price, and I only really notice a big difference with the M50 when I'm listening to classical and some extremely...- nbohaychuk

Looking for a decent closed headphone for around 200 bucks
Quote: I own the M50 and I listen to a lot of classical, jazz, and deadmau5. The soundstage is so good, sometimes I could say the piano, violin, etc. is about 30' in front of me at a 45 degree angle. I find them comfortable other than how they sometimes get warm, and the bass is slightly...- nbohaychuk

Looking for $250-$300 Headphones with good noise isolation
They aren't full-sized, but the Sennheiser HD25-1 II and Beyerdynamic DT 1350 have caught my attention, but I don't want to lose the wider soundstage of full-sized headphones for portability. The Senns also don't seem to have the sound signature that I'm looking for.- nbohaychuk
