The discovery thread!
Shout out to JBL Tune 230NC. One of those products with really capable drivers just maybe not dialed in perfect out of the box. Their JBL app with a built-in EQ makes it quite easy to get the most out of them though. Bass is comparable to Solo3s (on-ear), has some nice texture to it too...- SmOgER

Beats Solo3 Wireless - Impressions Thread
Tried them out in-store today. They are actually surprisingly good as a basshead headphones. Wasn't blown away per se, but for what it is and for the price... These sound tempting. Sound signature is fun and engaging out of the box, clarity ain't too bad either.- SmOgER

FLAC vs. 320 Mp3
I wonder though is it capped to 256kbps or can it go up to 320kbps over BT5? PS. Apparently non-Apple phones perform much worse with AAC. Interesting! https://www.soundguys.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-bluetooth-headphones-aac-20296/ I guess that's why my ears to be honest and despite my critique...- SmOgER

FLAC vs. 320 Mp3
AAC generally sound better than MP3, it is not proprietary (AAC@256 ~= MP3@320 ?). Apple is using this codec to this day to stream audio over BT.- SmOgER

The JVC HA-S500 thread.
Right so I'm officially of to Audio-Technica camp. SR30BT's are in quite similar price category as these used to be I think, sound as good and then some. Quite surprised there aren't that much info on them, so posting here in case someone's shopping for something similar to now to what those...- SmOgER

I'm pretty sure ALAC is getting converted to AAC@256kbps. Found this: https://www.macrumors.com/2021/05/17/airpods-max-no-direct-lossless-lightning-support/- SmOgER

Review by 'SmOgER' on item 'Audio-Technica ATH-SR30BT'
Honestly I was not expecting this much given that they cost less than 80EUR. I was quite surprised and quickly replaced my aging Plantronics BackBeat Pro with those. Initially I was planning to buy more expensive cans as a replacement for Plantronics but after using those for awhile frankly I...- SmOgER

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
Since this is the only post I've found mentioning ATH SR30BT I'm gonna post it here. Honestly those cans are amazing and I am trying not to exaggerate but it's very hard when they cost like 80 bucks. They sound better than CAL! across the whole range while offering better soundstage. And they...- SmOgER

According to V-MODA themselves: "DJs are no longer just live performers but are also often the producers behind their own music, and they need the right tool for that production process. For this type of sound profile, we needed to build something new with more of a studio production focus...- SmOgER

I know I know, but people are often overly biased in order to justify their new purchase that's why I asked. "The Z1R are wider, deeper and hits harder." - that's the answer I was looking for. So in my book you do indeed have a legitimate unbiased opinion. :)- SmOgER

Looking at the graph that sound signature re-assembles fun sounding headphones, except a bit more flat with that curve changing rather gradually throughout the bass and mid-range. That low-end peak and then sloping down till around 250Hz for more clarity until it picks up again in the mids is...- SmOgER

Yeah mate. Haven't tried BB Pro 2s, but to give you an idea BB Pro on flat EQ have quite considerably more bass than CAL!s (which I still consider to be great HPs) with 60Hz boosted all the way to the max using spotify EQ (iPhone DAC). I've tried many different HPs, but nothing came close to BB...- SmOgER

CAL! HPs - HUGE difference after burn-in
Okay so after I got them I noticed that they were simply unable to produce sub-bass. Even EQed it sounded like weird vibration borderline clipping and sometimes truly clipping. Fast forward 3 weeks and I pretty much prefer them over my Plantronics once EQed. Sub-bass is really good and it...- SmOgER

I absolutely love Plantronics as the sound signature is in my mind close to ideal. The bass is pronounced but doesn't go over the line of boomy and too much. If you boost bass with EQ by a small to moderate amount then it does start to get tiring/unpleasant, but with flat EQ it's very very good...- SmOgER
