I can't decide between HD600 and HD650
In my experience, the new production 600, 650, and 6XX all sound incredibly similar. Basically within unit to unit variation and age of pads. The 650 and 6XX are definitely the same headphones. Some here will say the 600 has slightly different tuning, but they're all very closely related...- Shazb0t

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Did the HE-500 have any damping material between the grills and the back of the drivers? I have an older one which I bought used that the grill mesh has been removed from and there is nothing but a clear view of the back of the drivers. For example, my stock HE-6 has cotton damping material...- Shazb0t

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
I use my HE-6 balanced through a Schitt Magnius. It has more than enough power to get uncomfortably loud, even with parametric EQ. 3.2W RMS per channel into 50 ohms. I used to use and still have an Emotiva mini-x that I would run off speaker taps. There is no difference in slam or anything...- Shazb0t

Looking for a mid-fi headphone with great bass and wide soundstage
Have you considered using some EQ? That would seem your least costly and likeliest option to please your tastes.- Shazb0t

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
There is no magic in cables. Audio signals can be easily measured. Any of the commonly used conductors in audio cables will transmit a signal without any audible degradation. There is no active element in cables that is modifying the audio signal. Any differences you think you hear are the...- Shazb0t

Something that would be interesting for you to try would be to setup a double blind listening test with your wife/girlfriend switching cables if you can. I think you'd be surprised.- Shazb0t

HifiMAN HE-500 sound but more impact?
I own both and I don't agree with you on all these points. To my ears the he6 is tonally brighter than the he500, so it's very possible that someone who enjoys the he500 may not pick the he6 over it. Hence my original suggestion to try before you buy.- Shazb0t

HifiMAN HE-500 sound but more impact?
The other thing to consider is that there is really nothing wrong with the he500. It's not going to be super easy to find something definitively better than them. You can find differently tuned cans, but I don't know that there is some obvious answer for you.- Shazb0t

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
Just start with the volume at zero and move up slowly. Turn the volume back down before shutting the system off. If you do these two things you'll be fine- Shazb0t

Emotiva A-100
I may be doing something like this as well. I will eventually need a passive pre-amp for use with other power amplifiers that don't have a volume control. Rather than have to buy attenuators now for the mini-X and a passive pre later I can save some money if you think that the end result is...- Shazb0t

Amps that can drive the HiFiMan HE-6 planar headphones
It's 4.0W RMS per channel according to Schiit. They also have this on their product page: "Power and Finesse in One Want to run IEMs? Sure. Need power for your HE-6? Sure. If this means nothing to you, just be confident that you can plug any headphone into Lyr 3 and get great sound. With full...- Shazb0t
