DIY 5.1 headset...help
Well it being cheap certainly doesn't make it very appealing. Rip some drivers off from a cheap but well received supra aural headphone, and the get some cheap but still good IEMs to match with it.- iJustin

DIY 5.1 headset...help
I think he's saying you should just skip the 5.1 and use regular headphones with the Astro Mixamp. Quite honestly a good pair of open headphones and the Astro Mixamp is really good for virtual surround sound. Many professional gamers do use that set up, so it doesn't sacrifice quality at all. ...- iJustin

AD700 Recable (Hopefully to Interchangeable cables)
It really depends on your uses. If you plan to store your headphones without the cables, or sometimes you want to get up really quick without the need of taking of your headphones then sure you should probably go with 1. 2 if your needs to 1 don't apply, or if you want a much simpler and easier...- iJustin

AD700 Recable (Hopefully to Interchangeable cables)
http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=966&bc=no Don't use the barrel but just use the jack. Drill a hole in a relatively flat part around the rim of the cans, and put this through it. Epoxy or anything that will hold well should be applied around it and there you go.- iJustin

ATH-M50 recabe
I have used that plug before. There are really no instructions needed. First slip on the barrel and the insulation on the cable. Strip your wires, tin and whatever. And solder accordingly. The shorter tab is left I believe (on the left side if the solder connections are facing you), the longer...- iJustin

Sony MDR-XB500 Superficial Mods
Heatshrink would be really stiff. You can have a combination of both my having the lace/sleeve covering the cables and using a small piece of heatshrink at the end of the sleeve and shrink it there to keep the sleeving in place. As for the paint, you're going t have to find a way to take...- iJustin

Quick recabling question
You do not have to recable with 8 strands. You could use as many strands as you want. It's a little unspecified of what you mean in the last sentence, but if you ordered solid-core wire, then yeah just do 2 signal 2 ground on a Litz braid.- iJustin

TRRS Plug; Recable Help
Thanks for all the help! You just cleared up so many things for me. On the TRRS jack how would the wiring go? I know how a TRS jack works; theres two little arms for the signal and one big platform for the ground. Also, I'm having a hard time trying to find some good jacks. I found a Calrad... -

Dude, you're the boss. Thanks for all the help! I learned a lot from what you said, and thanks for the very detailed instructions. TRRS Plug; Recable Help
Hey there, I recently obtained a used pair of HD555s. I found out something was wrong with the plug, so I decided to just recable the whole thing. Also since I used a microphone very often, I decided to also add in a microphone jack on the headphones themselves similar to the AD700 Dark Knight...- iJustin

Hey there Head-Fi, just starting out here. As a lot of people, I've recently wanted to start in audiophile quality. Just a few options on what I should pick as my first real headphones. Most of these are based on what I think it is, but lots of other people's opinions as well. If you...- iJustin
