The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
Regarding the vbr mp3s being clipped the newest firmware update fixes this or at least it did for me. I only found it happened on mp3s downloaded from Amazon however. The iriver website is bad so if it fails to download someone may be able to PM you another link where they uploaded- that's what...- eskimo

PS4 vs XBOX ONE (What would you buy and why? No fanboy like comments please)
It's only a pass through, but given xbox's reputation you never know. But the pass through should work with the console powered down i suspect, as it's designed to sit in a on-standby state. But don't quote me on it.- eskimo

Ps4 and PC audio
Forgive me, but why must your e17 convert podcasts? It's an e17, and they're podcasts, both lower end quality outputting to your ps4 distracted brain. I know Yamaha Receivers don't generally do digital out btw. Cheap mixer will do the job. Or just upgrade to some better headphones which are...- eskimo

Xbox one audio setup(noob)
I honestly doubt you'll benefit from an amp. I think smoko would of mentioned it if it were the case. Cheap amps don't do anything for quality imo- eskimo

Xbox one audio setup(noob)
Hiss on mixamps ain't that common but it does exist. It'll depend on your headphones, and yours i suspect aren't likely to be effected. And the game sound will drown it out regardless. I think i may have had some hiss with my dt990 premiums and only ever noticed it when it was really quite. If...- eskimo

Looks like I wont be getting an X7..
I knew this thing was too good to be true. Plastic-y build too. So i stuck with my Yamaha Receiver. I may have found a way to make it all work. Mic in and out control, headphone control, EQ control. It involves using an analog mixer. I am waiting on another cable and will test it out. Then i...- eskimo

Xbox one audio setup(noob)
Need mic for friends? Need positional advantage for fps? FYI Optical out is lossless, pure digital signal. It'll do stereo, surround, but not everything. The hdmi will also do the same + more. The stereo adapter will do just that, stereo. So inferior. But with your headphones, a surround...- eskimo

help me pick gaming headset
Sound identification can be very subjective so what sounds bassy to someone, may not be to you. Also it depends what others will run them off too. Yes a major dilema and i sympathise with your predicament, but the audio world isn't clear cut. Narrow your choices down, see if others have used...- eskimo

help me pick gaming headset
You won't get a clear best. I hate to say it, but it's a case of just growing a pair and buying what you feel may hit the points you want ( soundstage & bass ). I bet there's no one on this forum who has loved every headphone they've had btw! Mad Lust's guide will have a headphone to meet your...- eskimo

help me pick gaming headset
The sticky at the top has everything you need. Just take a read through there. In short you'll need to decide if you need to factor in a mic and a surround decoder which won't leave you with much- eskimo

PS4 with pre2013 Mixamp Issues?
I am selling my Mixamp and would like to know this too. As to advertise it working with the PS4 or not. But to mildly answer the OP's question, i've read there can be poor balancing with voice and game sound with older models. Mixamps are pretty crappy sound quality anyway. If no Mic...- eskimo

DT990 Amp Question
That mic is for a headset, you have headphones. Before the amp, you will need a surround decoder. Anything that can receiver dts or dolby and spit it out in stereo will work with your headphones. BUT Getting an external mic to work with headphones can be a pain on the XB1. The most...- eskimo

PS4 vs XBOX ONE (What would you buy and why? No fanboy like comments please)
Venting my frustration: I have so far found no positives to the Xbox One so far. I own Destiny and MCC, i played Destiny for a month, and MCC maybe 5 hrs total since release. The WHOLE UI is just soo bad, it's slow, it hangs, navigation goes in circles, snapping is awful and never snaps off...- eskimo

Destiny
I haven't played in over a month, my console rarely gets turned on even. I own this and Halo. I dunno why they even bother switching stuff round when the soft levelling could of easily been made to 500 levels. I hit 29 with ease, broke down probably 7/8 Exotics purely cause i enjoyed my...- eskimo

Destiny
It's good to hear some people are still playing and got the dlc are getting bored. The sooner the population drops, the sooner we'll get a better game or better Destiny 2. Sucks cause i loved Destiny for a month. Most pointless grinding i've ever done on a game.- eskimo

Need remedial help with headphones & xbox360.
No, wireless or cabled. Get whatever you like. BUT I believe the older models of the Mixamp do NOT work with Xbox Ones whatsoever. There's the Turtle Beach DSS2, but i don't have any experience with it myself, and it doesn't have a voice/ game sound mixer unlike the Mixamp. The...- eskimo

...exist. I suspect using the Xbox Stereo Controller Adapter even with nothing plugged into the headphone port, it will still output voice to it. *sigh Though i've not found an actual answer. I *think* using the Kinnect may allow voice input through itself allowing voice output...- eskimo

An Astro Mixamp will make it all work nicely. The alternatives aren't too great, either expensive, hard to get hold of, poor sound quality.- eskimo
