McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
So they fixed the audible pop on opening of audio streams and the fix isn't a firmware fix but a hardware fix? Isn't that called a design defect that really should be recalled for a $7k+ component?- groovyd

LCD-X and XC Update
To me the XC always sounded a lot more 'fun' than the X with a punchier bass and a more dub-step type groove. The X though I would consider closer to 'reference' sounding. I used to use my XC at work to block the room noise and X at home both on WA7 tube amps. Today I used the MX4 at home on...- groovyd

LCD-X and XC Update
Curious if there have been any generational changes made to the MX4 similar to the X/XC changes they've made in time? I have had my MX4 for maybe 3 years now (replaced my X & XC) and wondering if the most recent MX4 are any different?- groovyd

McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
Since my local service won't do it I managed to get the updater and upgrade it myself. Took about 30 seconds all in, maybe less but I had to answer a phone call in the middle. So turns out the latest version is actually 1.03, not 1.04 as I was originally told. Additionally the latest firmware...- groovyd

McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
Latest firmware is 1.04 according to McIntosh and it requires upgrade from a service center which is quoting me $80 just to look at it and a month to perform the upgrade. This is nuts. Excuse is too many users were bricking the devices. I'm sorry but as a firmware engineer I can safely say...- groovyd

McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
After purchasing a D1100 I can now confirm it does not have the same dodgy volume debounce issues as the D100 has. What is the latest firmware version? I bought it used and it came with 1.01. Sound is the same as the D100, not really any better but the volume control is so much smoother it's...- groovyd

McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
My D100 USB got super dodgy for like a week and over the past few days seems to have fixed itself? I'm starting to think it's USB bus clock (oscillator) is probably starting to drift out of spec but it's been stable for a few days again so really not sure. In any case I think it's probably...- groovyd

McIntosh D1100 DAC/Preamplifier impressions
My D100 USB input just kicked the can or at least upon turning on the D100 it briefly shows as an audio device on my mac before disappearing again 1 second later never to return. Not sure what the problem is. You can see it connect and then immediately disconnect. Looking at the system...- groovyd

Audeze LCD-MX4
I would recommend Sonarworks for FR correction. They have both average curves for MX4 and if you are willing to spend a bit more and send them into get calibrated they will deliver you a custom correction. The end result is a huge improvement over the stock sound imho. I have attached here a...- groovyd

Sonarworks Headphone Calibration software
Upgraded and managed to hash through the re-setyup of just about everything I have in my DAP etc. For me at least it did not carry over any of my custom profiles headphones or speakers. It uses a different project folder now which was empty. Had to copy paste all my custom projects over from...- groovyd

Sonarworks Headphone Calibration software
Wait are you saying Ref 4 doesn't upgrade to Ref 5 or that we need to pay to continue to get updates? What is SoundId? Isn't that the canned correction app for mobile? Video answered some of the questions but if I don't need custom curves what does this get me on a mac besides a new UI...- groovyd

1 DAC to 2 Amps
Input impedances are typically spec'd very high (>10-100k) for exactly this reason so that splitters don't cause significant imbalances. Amps are designed to amplify voltage not source current and line outputs are designed as voltage sources with unmatched and typically very low impedance...- groovyd

McIntosh Introduces the MHA150!
Not a big fan of the balanced plugs in the front design... I really don't need to see those and their ugly wires all day since they never get disconnected. Would have preferred a bit more modern styling and much bigger tubes.- groovyd

Do USB Cables matter?
The biggest advantage of 'quality' in USB cabling is in it not adding RF noise to the power and ground lines not because it might change the signal but it might depending on how the DAC is implemented allow some of that noise to pass through into the final analog conversion result coming out of...- groovyd
