New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)
Is anyone else having issues with the dynamic normalizer function? It doesn't seem to do what it's supposed to do. I also intermittently get a ton of lag in using software or hardware playback controls.- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Chord Mojo(1) DAC-amp ☆★►FAQ in 3rd post!◄★☆
Aren't they using a Xilinx Artix part? That's spun on a 28nm process. Kintex and Virtex UltraScale architectures are on a 20nm process and USP families on a 16nm process. There is without question higher density options on faster fabric. I'm sure Altera has some good offerings as well, but...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Sony WH-1000XM4 discussion and reviews
Well, then roll up your sleeves and make something better. Since you've already (repeatedly) accomplished your task of communicating all the flaws... it begs the question, why are you still here? Seems like #5 in my first post to you wasn't too far off the mark... you need a hobby.- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Great, then why are you looking at this thread? Get out there and solve the "why do I need a battery" problem... you will solve the world energy crisis in the process and probably get a Nobel prize.- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Sony WH-1000XM4 discussion and reviews
1. Do you think DACs and bluetooth transceivers work using magic fairy dust? 2. Not necessarily if EQ can get you there. 3. Bandwidth is not the same thing as throughput. I don't know what the overhead on the link is, but I wouldn't be surprised if 1.5Mbps is not achievable. 4. Are you going...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Sony WH-1000XM4 discussion and reviews
Absolutely not. The only reason to get these is if you're a frequent traveler and need the best ANC. In fact, drop the frequent traveler part because microphone quality for telecons is atrocious. Sound quality is horrendous out of the box - there is a huge peak in the bass frequencies and a huge...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

No fun if you take the shortcut :) Yes, without actually checking I'd assume it's correct. The output of the device itself is flat across the audible bandwidth, so all you are trying to do here is adjust the frequency response of the IEMs to match the Harman curve. There will be unit to unit...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Roon is live
I opted to install OpenVPN on my server (roon core) at home and generate client config files for each of my devices. I also have a registered domain name with dynamic DNS service (for the princely sum of $12/yr) and a DDNS client running to update the records every couple of hours. So I just VPN...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Worthy Of Consideration: ANC(Active Noise Cancellation) on the Road
Bandwidth is not a concern. There will be negligible squint over such a narrow BW. Yes, thought has to be taken in constructing a desired beam pattern, and some new technology needs to be developed. But I'm not here to solve the world's problems, chief. I'm just thinking about whether or not it...- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Worthy Of Consideration: ANC(Active Noise Cancellation) on the Road
That's not active, it's passive. And it's the same philosophy companies like Shure take over companies like Bose - noise isolation vs noise cancellation. Despite what you may think, you are not covering any new ground here.- GRUMPYOLDGUY

Worthy Of Consideration: ANC(Active Noise Cancellation) on the Road
It doesn't matter if the combiner is electronic behind a single (set of) speakers or at the ear.... The audio quality is still compromised. Nobody has ever claimed (and if they did, they are wrong) that ANC does not reduce audio fidelity.- GRUMPYOLDGUY

The ZX507 doesn't even have dynamic range to support 24 bits. I can't think of a DAP that does. The ZX507 however, may not even support the dynamic range of 16-bit data based on estimates computed from measured data that has been made public. Yet people in this thread seem to be very pleased...- GRUMPYOLDGUY
