I just want more bass! I know it exists!
How about replacing the pads on your DT770-80 from velour to pleather? It increases bass. Maybe not enough for you, but maybe worth a try. Seriously I can't describe dt770-80 as bass shy under no song. A/B-ing them to grado sr-80, akg k242hd, ath m50 makes them feel almost as a "bass-only"...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
Got the E17 today, so far very pleased. Works well with the K242HD and I think 12db gain for DT770-80 makes them sound much better. Next few days I'll have more listening time with it, but It seems I'll have to buy another one (maybe E10, maybe something completely different). It is very...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
ok googled for datasheets, not sure what to look for, but from specifications and SNR perspective, WM8740 > PCM1748 > WM8731L http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/documents/uploads/data_sheets/en/WM8740.pdf http://www.wolfsonmicro.com/documents/uploads/data_sheets/en/WM8731.pdf...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
X3 seems a nice standalone solution. I will look seriously into that. If only it was a bit cheaper... Wonder if and when will I find noticeable differences between wolfson WM8731L (cowon iaudio 7), burr brown PCM1748 (squeezebox 3), wolfson WM8740 (fiio x3 and e17). Right now i feel the...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
small update: I reinstalled squeezebox server on my ubuntu htpc and checked streaming of flac and other files over wifi with this setup. sb3 headphone output was too weak, so I added few cables to the RCA (line-level?) outputs forming a headphone jack. This sounded ok, but volume was almost...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
Thanks, I was thinking that until I've read http://www.head-fi.org/t/649167/fiio-e17-vs-galaxy-s3-dacs I don't have galaxy s3 but I assume a decent enough dac will make e17 less attractive. I might get one eventually due to it's portable quality, but rather hear some more opinions. BTW my...- maladjustdeath

budget setup for AKG K242HD
Hi All. I'm trying to improve a bit my home listening experience. First, I'm not sure I need an amp but we'll see about that in the following paragraph: Currently My favorite setup is cowon iaudio 7 various files at various bitrates -> akg k242hd. Flac sounds really nice but I have...- maladjustdeath

m50 /srh840/ k24x/ ??? again (coming from dt770 pro 80 / sr80)
Thanks, guess until using an amp I won't know what I'm missing. but I know that my phone is somewhat struggling in decent audible levels compared to iaudio. I think I prefer the usb route compared to pci so I don't need to open a pc case whenever changing source. I'll probably search for my...- maladjustdeath

m50 /srh840/ k24x/ ??? again (coming from dt770 pro 80 / sr80)
Well, guess I'll always wonder how the srh840 would have sounded like, but had nowhere to audition them. I ended up with k242hd today, I think it will be good for me. Rational: Came into the store with my iaudio 7 un-amped, listened to couple of senns (hd215, hd380 don't remember pro or...- maladjustdeath

m50 /srh840/ k24x/ ??? again (coming from dt770 pro 80 / sr80)
Hello, Havn't visited this great site for long time. I'm looking for headphones again, so here I go: I'm tired of carrying around my dt770 back and forth to work, so I'm looking for additional set. budget: 150$ more or less. Not looking for extreme audiophile level, mostly intended for...- maladjustdeath

iBasso P1 overheating
An iBasso support rep returned my query very quickly, and offers a free repair but I have to be responsible for shipping costs. Fair enough, but quick searching the cost of shipping a package to Hong Kong, and assuming similar price for shipment back, yields that I'll be paying something like...- maladjustdeath

iBasso P1 overheating
Hello, I have this amp for almost a year and I've recently noticed extreme overheating after leaving it connected to the charger for more than a day. I remember reading (most likely in the user's manual) that the iBasso P1 has overcharging protection circuit and thus can be left connected...- maladjustdeath

Improving movie sound quality from linux/mplayer/nforce2
Sorry for late response, well meanwhile my aging nforce2 machine is giving me a bit of trouble. It is also quite noisy for an HTPC (but the DT770 do a good job eliminating that). Regarding above comments - it is good to hear about more USB alternatives other than bithead (I remember other...- maladjustdeath

Improving movie sound quality from linux/mplayer/nforce2
Hello, For quite some time, my late night movie listening setup is as follows: Freevo running on ubuntu, executing mplayer-> nforce 2 onboard abit nf7-s v2 mobo stereo output (I don't use the center/lfe and surround outputs) -> iBasso P1 amp -> DT770/80. While I don't necessarily emphasize...- maladjustdeath

Open Cans for Metal
Could it be that some of the DT770 slowness be attributed to lack of amp? I'll have to recheck that when I'm home, but I seem to recall that those headphones sound a bit more muddy in the bass department without amplification.- maladjustdeath

Old school soundcards
Before soundcards there was the pc speaker (the one initially designed to beep). I think it was the help of some cheat code on Peter Norton x86 assembly book (or boot directly into BASIC from bios) that allowed one to program the speaker to produce various pitches of different lengths and thus...- maladjustdeath

Searching for a USB DAC
While I'm also looking at various linux options, I've encountered this page, which mentions that headroom products are supported: http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Al...red_Soundcards In my case I think an optical DAC would be better if I could only find a cheap one, so I'll be able to...- maladjustdeath

Headphones in bed
Tried that w dt770, hd212 and mpio stock earbuds. Not useful while going to sleep - It is uncomfortable to rest my head on my ear (and also muffles the sound on that ear), with all of those. So speakers (little creative sbs speakers for now) it is.- maladjustdeath

Search for perfect metal can continues.
Interesting, following few similar threads, it seems that a typical metalhead headphone journey would be 1. Start with a grado sr-80/60/ms-1 or stumble upon it a bit later. 2. Branch out into other brands in search of better bass, soundstage, less sibilance or suitablity for non-metal genres...- maladjustdeath

Whats a good IEM for Metal?
The problem with using Behold Judas is the unnoticeable bass guitar in this song (at least on unamped sr-80). Drums and guitar are fine though. This sound reminds me of 90's Scott Burns productions (infamous for "eliminating" Steve Digiorgio bass lines from Death - Human album). Ideally...- maladjustdeath
