Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Hope this isn’t too far off topic. I’m looking at a different tube for my Vali 2++(see below). I currently own GE JAN5670, GE 5670 5-star red, RCA Command 5670, and Reflektor 6N3P, gold grid, double-mica. Any experience/opinions on the following?: Reflektor 6N3P, gold-grid, nickel-plated pins...- Chicagorob

Two great tubes for the Vali 2++ are the NOS GE 5670 5-star white/red, and NOS RCA Command 5670. I also picked up a NOS Russian 6N3P, Gold-Grid, triple-mica for $5.00, and it also sounds fantastic. To my ears, the RCA sounds the most “tube-like” of the three.- Chicagorob

Excellent news. How is the bass? I wonder, due to the low damping factor.- Chicagorob

Very good review, indeed. Looks like the Tyr has exceptional scalability, in that Thomas could hear big differences between various preamps.- Chicagorob

I don’t know if I need a Vali 3. My Vali 2++ is insanely good with the RCA Command 5670 tube. It’s also stellar with the GE 5-star Red 5670.- Chicagorob

Regarding the tightly-fitting toroidal transformer in the Aegir 2: that’s 10 lbs. of Schiit in a 5-lb. bag.- Chicagorob

Agree 100% with your assessment. I can build a 1-meter pair of Mogami 2549 interconnects and Rean Neutrik connectors for less than $15. I tie the shield to the source end, only. I love the neutrality of these cables. Another great, high performance cable is Canare L-2T2S, which is sonically very...- Chicagorob

I have tea-bagged 58x phones with MM1 and Vali 2++. The overall presentation is really good, with natural texture and tone, and zero hardness. I can listen to this combo for hours without a hint of fatigue.- Chicagorob

The MM1 is definitely on the warm side of neutral, especially when paired with my Vali 2++. It also sounds warmer than the Geshelli J2. It tends to sound more neutral when paired with my JDS Labs Atom Amp +.- Chicagorob

I’ve been around the block with DIY interconnects. To my ears, 2549 with a floating shield is what does the trick for me. Clean, transparent, detailed presentation, and extremely neutral. The “Japanese” method with the shield connected at both ends dulls and darkens the sound.- Chicagorob

Just for Schiits and giggles, I hooked up my Rekkr to my B&W Matrix 805s, which are normally powered by a $3K Yamaha A-S1200. The combo sounded great and was plenty loud for normal listening. It’s amazing what you can do with two good watts.- Chicagorob
