Yeah, I don't think MQA was a "standard" along the lines of what an Ethernet cable needs to have in order to be "an Ethernet cable" or other examples of true standards.Whilst I'm no supporter of MQA, "standards" are the basis of pretty much everything that makes life practical.
MQA was just the next iteration of "if you want to play in Meridian's garden, pay us money and implement this." I think Naim, Linn and most famously Apple has these kinds of "standards." Microsoft, too, although they were/are so big everyone considered their garbage requirements "standards" although they weren't.
