Just Killed my First Driver! [Grado Content]
Hi all, I don't think I've ever killed a brand new driver before so I thought: ask the community for thoughts on what's happened to the driver. This is/was a brand-new 50mm Grado driver that I tested for continuity when it arrived and then fitted into a set of 'test' cups - so these were...- i-am-iron-man

Hi all, So earlier in the year I sold my Symphones Magnum V6. Even at the time I was on the fence about doing so, and I should bear in mind that I've got form for seller's remorse. Anyways, I immediately got seller's remorse. Anyone got a pair they'd sell? - I'm based in the UK. Thanks!- i-am-iron-man

The "non-Grado" Driver Grado Thread
As per @Mightygrey - no effect whatsoever. Microphone cable uses two twisted pairs to reject electromagnetic interference. This would be a problem for microphone cables because they use long runs and presumably in close proximity to electrical cables. It's not such a biggie on short cable runs...- i-am-iron-man

The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
Aye - the differences in specification between model numbers in the SR series is a little eyebrow-raising - the SR60 and SR80 are identical other than the pads! After that you get into slightly different cables. I wouldn't expect the SR driver to be anything special at all ... ... but I'm very...- i-am-iron-man

The Headphone Driver Pics Thread
Hi all, first post for a long time! - I've spent quite a few years building Grado-style clones with aftermarket drivers [Symphones, Nhoord, Elleven, etc] as well as being very drawn to the Denon AH-D / Fostex TH design. I don't have any off-the-peg cans and haven't for some time - I'm up to six...- i-am-iron-man

post your grado mods....
Aaaah, always the T50rp ... maybe if there were more options for Fostex TH / Denon AH-D lovers that didn't want another set of Lawtons and didn't fancy taking their chances with Chan from E-MU ... Maybe if someone were to produce open-backs for these headphones ...- i-am-iron-man

Grado modders go Magnum
Hey Rhydon, I parted with my original Vibro cups because I couldn't get past them having a slot for the cable rather than a hole. I've subsequently bought Rholupat cups - I guess its the cable slot that interferes with a clean installation? - Thought I'd post rather them PM as I'm sure...- i-am-iron-man

Fostex TH610 - Capsule Materials Question
Hi all, I'd like to buy some of the material Fostex has used on the back of the TH610 capsule. Does anyone know what it is and where I could buy some? I've made my own wooden driver mount fit a Fostex TH design. Fostex use an "acoustic optimiser" where there are breathable holes around the...- i-am-iron-man

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)
Hi all, Those of you may remember a few pages back where I went on holiday but couldn't sleep one night because I was so jealous of @Konstantin690 's beautiful Audeze-based Ypsilon build. I went home, gutted a pair of broken Denon AH-D5000, 'liberated' the ruined drivers and bonded in short...- i-am-iron-man

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)
The 'open' shells I made are mahogany cups from a butchered pair of Massdrop X-00 (I still feel a bit remorseful about about having done this, despite them turning out looking nice). My impression of running the X-00 drivers with open shells is the same as what I thought about the aftermarket...- i-am-iron-man

That looks like a horrible job! - you're right though, I'm resigned to having to pull from the front, I suspect I might need to use more force than I'd like to though. The splitter I was going to use was made of wood. That said, I'm an obsessive cable-builder and Y splits give me a headache ...- i-am-iron-man

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)
Hello Sir, quite right, I had fitted aftermarket Ypsilon drivers into a D5k shell with open wood cups. I didn't persist with this for very long, and I'm currently running them with closed wooden shells. I don't have any means of measuring their performance, and it'd be very difficult doing A>B...- i-am-iron-man

Got my G1's running. Happy to confirm they are [another] excellent-sounding Elleven driver. I've run them in for around 24hrs and they sound very convincing in G cushions. Had a bit of a disaster though! - I was in too much of a hurry to give them a listen and fitted them before I finished the...- i-am-iron-man

I wasn't expecting it to pan out like this (otherwise I wouldn't have put so much effort into the open cups ...) but (to my ears) they are doing better closed-back. The closed cups aren't Denon, they are eBay jobbies - they are bigger / more internal volume. I'm not keen on subjective...- i-am-iron-man

Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)
Some time ago I picked up a Denon AH-D5000 for spares - it had been modified with an awful lot of Dynamat, and one of the drivers had been killed by a soldering iron. I didn't think there was a chance I could use the capsules but resisted the temptation to bin them. Then I noticed the...- i-am-iron-man

So far the worst thing that happened to me was the solder pad popping off an SR80 driver whilst I was attempting to liberate it from the plastic inner cup, unwisely using a hair dryer [the next person I showed it to popped it out with a screwdriver within a couple of seconds...]- i-am-iron-man
