Free Burn-in Files
Glad to hear that! Is there any reason why you didn't use the files provided by the OP, aside from convenience? Also, could you elaborate a bit on how burn-in has affected the cans? Did it affect the mid-range in any way?- Gloomy Moonie

The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
Hey guys, I'd like to talk a bit about the sound signature of the K7XX, and whether there's a way to balance it's sloppy mid-range out. For reference, I own both the Q701 and the K272, and the following examples I think would best represent the reasons for my (mild) dissatisfaction. Rock and...- Gloomy Moonie

Free Burn-in Files
Thanks for the files, one question though: is it possible to make a warm headphone brighter, by the means of burn-in? The cans in question are the K7XX, which I've burned-in for about 10-20 hours at an uncomfortably loud levels, using the music I listen to the most, in hopes of leveling out its...- Gloomy Moonie

@Kamakahah I've converted you, haven't I? ;) Allow me to go on a tangent here and ask you about alternative gear. I've noticed that among your vast array or gear are the Magni/Modi. Could you give a brief summary on your experience with those, in the context of the NFB-15? Does the Modi have...- Gloomy Moonie

Interesting. How did you determine that it sounds better? Would you recommend removing a ground connection, and wouldn't this potentially increase noise?- Gloomy Moonie

I didn't say I couldn't tell a difference, even though it could have appeared that way. What I did say is that even though there is a (negligible) difference, it doesn't necessarily better or worsen the sound. Heck, try to differentiate between high and low res. yourself, you'll see what I mean...- Gloomy Moonie

@BlueRequiem anyhow, it's the lack of overall sound improvement that bothers me most. This leaves me with an albeit powerful, but still unnecessary SS amp, which is unjustifiably expensive for a 62 Ohm headphone that costs 2/3 as much.- Gloomy Moonie

@Kamakahah I suspect it just depends on the system. Given that my laptop is pretty old, it's less likely to survive such an inefficient driver. Thanks for the providing a possible fix, but I have no time nor interest to fiddle with that right now. I'd much rather go with the M2&M2, which were...- Gloomy Moonie

The first thing I did was of course address Kingwa with this issue, to which he replied with saying that it shouldn't be audible on normal listening levels. This leads me to conclude that it the hiss is normal to some degree, which does not correspond with a good number of you who claim that...- Gloomy Moonie

Got my NFB-15 a couple of days ago. After long hours of tedious listening, I have to say that I honestly cannot tell the difference between my Sony laptop and the NFB-15. Tracks that are "efficient" enough to have enough volume through the laptop sound the same too. This begs the question of...- Gloomy Moonie

So to confirm, as of now, there aren't any issues with the drivers, correct? About to pull the trigger on the NFB-15, so if there's anything I need to know - do tell.- Gloomy Moonie

Is the Audio GD NFB-11 (2014) a clear improvement over the EHP-O2 (O2+ODAC) driving an HE-500?
Thanks :) Firstly, both the HE400 and the DT880 were rewired with a balanced connection, so I really had no chance to see how they sound with the NFB-11/15. But from the vague memory I have from the brief listen I gave to the DT880, it was just a bit more bright than I would have liked, and...- Gloomy Moonie

So is there any DAC/amp combo that best suits the K7XX? This is the part that frustrates me the most about this hobby, quite honestly. And here I was, thinking that I've found the optimal choice for the money. God damn it. So... Finally got the chance to visit the local Audio-gd distributor, and listen to the Master 9, NFB-27, and both the NFB-11 and 15. Had a lot of fun and positive impressions doing so, but before I dive into my rant review, I'd like to say that I am by no means an audiophile, so those of you...- Gloomy Moonie
