It says on the massdrop site. Then they contact the manufacturer then they drop then they buy then they ship. A long time:)

If I was going to do tubes (again) this one would probably get my money before anything cheaper or even a couple of times more expensive:

Would the Ember be a better choice since the 7XX's are a bit power hungry?

Edit: I realized the question was for a OTL amp. Sorry, carry on.

i personally wld think that ember wld work better. otl amps usually pair better with high impedance headphones... like much higher than 70 ohms. 70 ohms is actually low enough to get by w/o an amplifier.

Someone recently here (maybe changeisgood?) said they really like the k7xx for movies. Thanks man! I tried it last night and loved it for movies, better than my standby dt990s!

Literally had the K7XX on order and cancelled next day haha. I figured that I should just get the Senn HD 600 since the price is so low and since the K7XX have been reported to have a bit of rattle by some. On a side note, Amazon seems to have some complaints about slow shipping out of their warehouse. Ordered the HD 600 Feb 4th at 6am and still hasn't even shipped, lots of people have reported this same thing on different items. Anyway.
I'm coming from the HD 595 so I would assume that the K7XX would be closer to a sidestep or diagonal sidestep.

Imo, k7xx is equal to for better than the hd600. I prefer the k7xx to the hd600. Can't go wrong with either. To my ears the K7xx is definitely not a side step from hd595.

The rattle....lol you should have just ignored that. Even if you were lucky to get one with rattle, AKG will fix it for free. Plus give or take, it will happen to about 45 units within a batch.

Go for the 7xx if you are not planning to spend more money on an amp or whatsoever and for $200 it's a steal. However, the HD600 scales incredibly well. Paired properly, I think the general consensus is that the HD600 works better with most genres and is slightly more detailed. The HD650 as Tyll at Innerfidelity commented is even more detailed than the HD600.  At the end of the day you will be spending far more with the HD600 in order to bring out it's full potential.

Do any of you guys who have followed AKG for some time know have any ideas what might be next for the k7xx when all the massdrop ones are sold? Are they burning off old driver stock and moving towards a new release? Will they be released as a new model above $200, or will massdrop just release more? Just curious what you guys think is up with the k7xx.

I personally think they are just trying to sell the rest of their old driver stock from the K702, Q701, K702AE with this K7XX. Once that happens, who knows. I'm assuming they will be discontinued, and the K712 will take its place in the linued same way the K612 replaced the K601. Hopefully this will result in a major drop in price for the K712.

What amp are you finding good synergy with the k7xx? I am running a project starlight right now (from a modi 1) and enjoying it, but have read that solid states do better with AKG in terms of detail and clarity.

I've only tried solid state in my short two years in this hobby, the E9K, M-Stage, iCAN, Asgard 2, and NFB-15. That said, I have been lucky to test each with some sort of AKG I owned, at the time, whether it be the Q701, K702AE, or K612. My favorite pairing wit the AKGs has to be the NFB-15, but keep in mind its built in DAC has a lot to do with it.
