FLAC compression & kbps
Thanks all for your answer, it's clear. When I was googlin'myself on the subject, I came across this site which explain a lot of (computer-)audio terminology: http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/KB/1_intro.htm and especially http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/KB/BitRate.htm...- Cowboy Pinkhat

FLAC compression & kbps
TThanks all. I think the answer is here somewhere. It states that Foobar shows the input kbps, not the decoded/decompressed kbps.- Cowboy Pinkhat

FLAC compression & kbps
I thought so. But when I play the (compressed) file in Foobar, it says it 'has' 746 kbps. So when does the decompression/decoding take place?- Cowboy Pinkhat

FLAC compression & kbps
Hello, When I convert a certain .ape file to .flac (uncompressed) it is 65Mb (1411 kbps) But when I use compression level 5, it is 34Mb (746 kbps) I see that in Foobar2000. Is there a difference in audio quality between the two? I know there shouldn't be, but aren't kbps's...- Cowboy Pinkhat

EAC - Lame VBR settings - Am I doing it wrong?
I rip CD to mp3 using EAC and LAME (3.98). The settings/parameters are set to v-0, which should result in bitrates of ~245 kbps. But if I look at my songs, the bitrates are more in the region of 160 kbps average. It's mostly classic jazz. Am I doing something wrong? TIA- Cowboy Pinkhat

Add physical weight to a hifi component
Is it possible to add physical weight to a hifi component, for instance the Onkyo ND-S1. It feels rather light and moves around a bit when playing with the iPod, so maybe I can make it a bit heavier. What do I use, that doesn't interfere with the electronics? There is plenty of room:- Cowboy Pinkhat

Headroom Micro Amp vs. Heed Canamp
As the title says, I want one of these amps, and I wondered what would be the better on. It will be running my iPod, with mainly acoustic jazz, and my headphones are Shure 840. I also wondered if the 'crossfeed' function is a welcomed feature. Input and recommendations highly appreciated.- Cowboy Pinkhat

portable speakers suggestions
I'd say the Harman Kardon Go & Play (stupid name for a product for grown-ups). Fantastic sound for the money, it charges your iPod and there's a line-in for other audio devices (mini jack) -

Ouch! Will this change
Listening to my new AKG-K271 MKII. Fubar IV DAC & Amp + dedicated Supplier. Damn, these cans are harsh! No bass... Been burning them in for 20 hours on my iPod (computer was broken, not a lot of volume on the iPod) and now I listen to them for the first time on the Fubar and....OUCH...- Cowboy Pinkhat
