Little Dot Tube Amps: Vacuum Tube Rolling Guide
I have the LD Mk3 and recently my headphone collection transitioned to low impedance cans (Audioquest Nighthawk/Nightowl @ 25 Ohm). The sound from the Mk3 was good but suboptimal (to my ears) so I tracked down a used LD Mk1+ and like the sound much better for those particular 25 Ohm headphones...- vampirehunterd

Grace Design x Massdrop m9XX DAC/Amp Review: First Impressions
This little device is wicked and a perfect pairing with Audioquest Nighthawk/Nightowls. It's almost worth it alone for the volume control but the ultra clean DAC and amp section makes it a total package for computer audio playback. I'll second the comments regarding low end control and an...- vampirehunterd

Audeze iSINE 10 & iSINE 20: Audeze releases two new IEM planar magnetic earphones
I traded for some Isine 10s about a month ago and I absolutely love them. The person I got them from included some modified ear hooks with memory wire/heat shrink tubing that make them very comfortable to wear and they stay locked in position. I remember seeing comments questioning the design...- vampirehunterd

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
I have the LD Mk3 and while not ideal for NH it is an interesting listening experience. The output impedance is too high for one so damping is an issue and the power delivery at 32 Ohm is 100mw and I think it drops a bit more at the Nighthawk impedance of 25 Ohm. That being said the best...- vampirehunterd

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
Some additional thoughts after more time with the Nightowls. They are very sensitive to amp output impedance mismatches just like the Nighthawk. SQ from Grace M9XX or Astell and Kern Jr. is great but trying them on an Aune T1 with an output impedance of ~10 Ohm and the SQ takes quite a...- vampirehunterd

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
I just got the Nightowls and initial impression is what I was expecting, a closed version of the Nighthawk. They came with the boost pads installed and I listened to a few of my favorite tracks to see if I wanted to swap pads. It's readily apparent my ears are wired like some other Head-Fi...- vampirehunterd

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
I've had the Nighthawks for several weeks and I literally do not want to listen to my other headphones any more. My collection is squarely low to mid-fi and I used to really like the sound of DT880s paired with a LD Mk3 or Grado RS2 through the Grace M9XX but listening exclusively to the NHs...- vampirehunterd

AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread
+1 on Hybrid pads sounding the most musical to my ears. After recently trying all three pad options I prefer the original Hybrid pads. It is nice to have some pad rolling options, Boost pads for slight treble boost and Microsuede to slightly reduce bass, but the Hybrid pad is a perfect match...- vampirehunterd

The Grado RS-2 Thread
Great write-up on the differences between the various RS2 versions. Upon further listening today I really need to plug the RS2e into the Little Dot Mk3 to get a sound my ears enjoy whereas the RS2 sounds great via the Grace M9XX amp or the LD Mk3. Listening to the RS2e through the tube amp is...- vampirehunterd

The Grado RS-2 Thread
This is a truly underappreciated and overlooked headphone in the Grado lineup. I've had the buttonless RS2 for about 5 years and have always enjoyed the smoother version of the Grado sound over the first pair of Grados I experienced, the SR-80. I just acquired the RS2e and direct A/B...- vampirehunterd

Replacement Pad Suggestions for Someone Who Wears Glasses - Grado SR80
I stuck some of the giant Earzonk G bowls on my Grado RS2s and they pair well with my glasses. The pads fit around my ears instead of on the ear like the smaller bowls. The description on Amazon says they fit the SR80s. I also slight bent the headband to reduce the clamping force. It's still...- vampirehunterd

Magni 3 Impressions
Totally agree. Similar setup except the 250 ohm DT880s and I'm really enjoying the sound for my office setup. Limited desk real estate makes a Schiit stack ideal for quality sound with a small footprint. I'm glad Schiit makes products like this for those of us with limited expendable income.- vampirehunterd

Magni 3 Impressions
I've been listening to the Magni 3 for a few hours with Grado RS2s/Sennheiser HD 650s and I'm digging the sound so far. The Magni 3 really seems to make the RS2s sing with my very low budget setup.- vampirehunterd

Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: Totally agree. Too bad there are so few reviews online so some people are a little apprehensive of dropping money on Emotiva products. I have been very happy with the quality/value and customer service associated with their products. Excellent bang for your buck. -
Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: The 5s are only an inch wider so I think they would be plenty stable on the DS2 and the 5s are about 3lb heavier per speaker compared to the 4...I don't think that would matter much. The 6s are a lot heavier and wider so the DS2 might not work very well. I know one guy used... -

Review: ZERO 24 BIT/192KHz DAC/Headphone Amp/Pre-Amp
So...I haven't read through all 600+ pages of this post but I have purchased a used Zero from another head-fi member and I am more than happy with it. I have a small selection of op-amps and I have been playing around with the Audio-GD Earth (came with it as part of the sale) in main slot and...- vampirehunterd

Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: The STF2 is on sale for $319 and looks like a nice jump over the STF1. Worth considering...I have heard great things about HSU and my Outlaw sub may actually be a rebranded HSU...it sure looks like the old VTF2-MK? from HSU. http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/stf-2.html ... -
Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: My only experience is with using optical from mobo -> Fiio D3 -> RCAs straight to Airmotivs w/ level at max on speakers using PC as volume control. I got a little pop at PC boot so I would recommend turning speakers off when booting/rebooting. Two days ago I got the Audioengine... -
EmotivaPro Airmotiv 4's with Audioengine D1?
So the Audioengine D1 paired with Emotiva Airmotiv 4s or Grado SR80/RS2s/Ety 4Ps is a win in my book. The sound to my ears is detailed but non-fatiguing for long listening sessions and I don't feel like the Airmotivs have been compromised by the D1 as the DAC/line-out. I think the Audioengine...- vampirehunterd

EmotivaPro Airmotiv 4's with Audioengine D1?
I know this is a little late but I have a D1 arriving Friday to pair with my Airmotivs. I hope the synergy is there and will report whether I like the combo. Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: This was my perspective. I am in student loan repayment so my expendable money needs to be spent wisely. I had considered something from Swan in the ~$300ish range from Audio Insider along with the Audioengine A5 plus. I didn't want to spend $400 on the A5+ nor could I afford... -
Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
Quote: Airmotiv 4s in a small bedroom (where I am currently using) provide as much bass as I want for music/games from the PC. A larger room would probably need the 5 for the extra headroom and larger bass driver.I have mine about a foot from the rear wall, angled up and towards my... -
Emotiva Pro airmotiv4 Loudspeakers Review
I have been listening to the AirMotiv 4s for over a week now and I am very happy with them. $320 delivered is a great deal for a nice pair of powered speakers...connectivity options aren't geared towards iPods but if you want a smallish speaker with good extension to 60Hz and a very usable max...
